Should you change the factory colour scheme of your FJ??

Paint schemes get discussed here from time to time and occasionally there is a bike like this that just nails it with great colours.

I can't recall ever seeing one that changes the pattern that works. There are some fantastic paint jobs out there but they all need a full fairing to work.

Years ago a I must have looked at every custom FJ paint job, and many others, on the net and all the good looking bikes had, as Feral said, stayed with the stock pattern and just changed colours.

One color and no striping gives the FJ a very bulky/heavy look IMO - the tank and fairing isn't very pretty without some optic help. I think the lines makes the bike looks thirsty for road - gimme more! 

Neither Me nor the FJ1100 are boy racers anymore, so I opted for a more subtle choice of colors - and I'm very satisfied with the result. It was made in a cold garage during the Danish winter, but My buddy and Me got a good result, considering the circumstances. The 3 color scheme took some work with the blue 3m masking tape though

I just came across this post. Its something I've been thinking about with my pale wet brown 92 FJ.

There are several pieces of replacement body work in GRP white that will need painting. The tank needs some work too which would mean a repaint. I do like the white & silver, but whatever I apply (IF I do change) will be in the same style as the original but different base colours.

Here are a few members bikes that do not have the factory paint.

I also agree with not a lib that the satin black looks good on the FJ. I even purchased one and owned it for about 9 months before I sold it.
IMO the solo color needed to be broken up, so I added a set of '89 gold graphics.

Also I like the looks of an all white FJ, to help a little with an OEM look, I added a set of European graphics. The bodywork is a spare set. The OEM theft deterrent '89 bodywork is safely tucked away in storage.
