Randy answered my call today, when I was 1,200 miles into my Colorado trip. I was stumped by an electrical problem, that I have never (and hope to never again) experienced before. With Randy's knowledge, it was diagnosed as a sticking starter button.

Thanks Randy!!!!!!!!!

Randy, thanks for being there for all of us. FJ1100mjk, what was the symptom of the problem and how did Randy determine it was the starter button?

Thanks, Rich

Rich:

The same lights (such as oil pressure) that come on (and go off) on the dash when you push the starter button in normal operation, stay on when the starter button sticks. The headlight, also goes out, but you don't know that if you're sitting in the seat. The starter button itself, stays depressed after it is released, and you can hear the starter still engaged after the motor is running.

You can pull the starter button out with your fingertip and/or fingernail, to stop the temporary problem.

It only has happened a few times, since it happened the first time, so I will address the disassembly and cleaning of the button and contacts in the off-season. Perhaps someone knows of an old post about doing this procedure, and can reply with a link to it.
