Put the factory exhaust back on the bike.

Well, the time has come to freshen up my factory exhaust and put it back on the bike.

Dug it out of the corner of the garage, and the first thing I did was take one of the down-tubes and coat it with some "Aircraft Remover" to try and remove the factory burnt-on paint/dirt finish.

While that was working on the finish, I went to work on the nasty pipe-to-engine clamps.

I first tried a buffer wheel with some compound, and that worked well enough, but then decided I would have to spend hours on them to get all the little imperfections out of the aluminum.
I then used the wire-wheel, as it was quicker at removing the burnt-on dirt, and provided a low-maintenance finish.

I turned my attention back to the down-tube that I sprayed with aircraft remover......................................Well, I should have used "Motorcycle Remover", because it did absolutely NOTHING to the burnt-on finish.  :dash1:

OK, so off to the wire-wheel it is.
It made quick work of the original finish, and took it down to a nice brushed stainless steel.

I then used a band of fine emery-cloth, and did a quick strapping around the pipe.
I decided not to polish them, as I am after a "lower-maintenance" finish, so I left it as is.

I repeated this with the other 3 pipes.

I cleaned up the collector box and muffler cans as best I could, then mounted everything back on the bike.
(not the greatest pictures)

It was then that I realized that I'm missing the rubber bumper for the center-stand.. (I couldn't remember if it was ever there in the first place)

A quick trip to ACE Hardware to remedy the situation.

$2.79 bought me 2 of these.

I chopped it down by half with the sawzall, and found some hardware in my stash in the garage.

Mounted it to the factory hole on the muffler can, and works just like the factory one should!  :yahoo:

The only problem I have now, is now that the (Quiet) stock exhaust is back on the bike, I am now reacquainted with all these other engine noises..........  :sarcastic:
