14MM clutch master and 2 clutch springs

My new clutch started slipping after about 15K miles under a hard load (4th gear and rolling on the throttle to pass). WTF??  So after mentioning this to Randy he said the clutch wears and just add a second spring. I took the second spring off my '89 because it was a real workout with the stock master. I had a 14MM master that came from another member here. I thought it was George but he denies the 14MM gift. Maybe the real donor can step up and take credit. And maybe identify the bike/year it came from so I can find a switch for it. I installed a second spring and then the 14MM master. Since I only opened up the banjo bolt at the master I decided to test the self bleed of the master. Once connected I topped off the DOT5 and started to cycle the lever. bubbles came up, and came up and then stopped. I could feel some resistance at the lever and now a short fountain shoots up with each lever pull. Damn, it worked. Put the cap on and geared up for a test ride. The clutch and master worked very well. I found Kookaloo many times testing the stump-pulling power of the FJ engine and really enjoyed my ride yesterday. The 14MM master makes the 2 clutch springs feel like the stock master with one spring. Very easy on the grip while allowing the clutch to deliver full grunt to the rear wheel. So I can say first hand that 2 clutch springs with a 14MM master are a good fit for the FJ and the master will self bleed.  :good2:

I have a VFR 750 - 800 14mm master with one spring and it feels as though it needs to be bled. But it doesn't. That's how easy it pulls. So thanks Mark. I will do the same. Mine slips a little too.

Hey Monkey , do you have the extra full size fiber installed as well?

That's why I like FJR masters - easy to remember where they came from.

Thanks John, my master is not radial. I looked up the FJR just for grins and I think it is a match. The switch on the bottom also looks like it will fit where mine is missing. Thanks for the good ideas.

FJ and FJR switches have different plugs. FJ is 2 terminal and FJR is 3 terminal.

The FJR switch is likely DPDT (Double Pole, Double Throw). One common, one normally open and the third normally closed. I will just test the FJ switch to see if it needs NO or NC. Anyone have an FJR switch that they can measure the size or at least take a close up photo with a scale or tape measure? And I don't need to mess with the switch as the '89 does not use a 2 pin connector, it has two slip-on connectors. I saw Frank's (Flynt) post on this mod for the '91+ FJs.

Not sure if this helps....but on my 86 I cut my plug off and crimped on some female connectors and plugged them in this format. I think I just played with plug positions until all worked as it should. Has been a couple of years now and the memory aint what it used to be.. All seems to work just fine. I have doubled up clutch spring with fjr master and it is just as easy pull as the oem. I started with doubled spring with oem master and pull was stiff but manageable. The new master made a world of difference. And it looks cool matched to either the fjr or fz1 brake master...... :i_am_so_happy:
