 I'm looking for info on the actual process of the conversion but I'm only finding references to people saying they did it or have it. It seems inexpensive enough to pick up a set with M/C so I went ahead and Ebayed a set to have on hand. My M/C is looking a little  rough around the edges.  I dont really have a problem with my stock brakes outside of the fact that they are near 30 years old so I'm on my way to do it.

Hey Mike, I don't recall ever seeing a step by step write up, mainly because it is not necessary. True plug and play with your '90 FJ.
If you find you have problems with your brake lines fitting, simply swap the left line with the right line....hopefully you are not still using the old rubber lines.
Along with the R-1 calipers, we have found the best "feel" or brake lever modulation comes from also replacing the oem FJ 5/8"dia. master cylinder (m/c) with a 14mm dia. m/c off a FZR or FJR or many, other bikes which use the smaller piston in the m/c.

Like Pat says, they are plug and play for the '89 and later forks. Here is a good close up view of my Blue Dots. I used Goodridge 2 line brake hoses for the '89 FJ. Again, follow what Pat mentions about changing the brake hoses around.

OK sweet. The brake lines is what I was curious about, I was unsure of how you guys did the lines. I noticed on the R1 set, both lines converge at the M/C but the FJ meets up on the bottom triple clamp. Which brings in my question, when I order the upgraded brake lines...... which set up am I getting or ordering being there are two scenarios ?

I am using Goodridge lines. I have the 2 line set up. It eliminates the T union near the horn. My recommendation is to order a Spiegler 2 line kit from RPM. The key with the Spiegler kit, are that the end fittings can be rotated to the optimum position.

Here is the shot of the lines coming out of the Master cylinder. I mentioned the Spiegler lines, because you can't use my photo as a copy. I have Honda Master Cylinders and the Banjo fitting hole is moved 90 degrees from the Yamaha hole.

They don't have to be just blue spots either, gold and silver spots fit as well if you want to colour match wheels etc..as long as their axial calipers not the later radial ones where they bolt on through the top of the caliper.

Either of these two kits will work with the blue spots or OEM calipers. The 2 line kit is like what Fred has and uses a double banjo at the master cylinder, then one line to each caliper. The original 3 line, utilizes your original fitting at the triple tree and plumbs up the same way as the original lines. All Spiegler kits come with heads that are adjustable to clock them in whatever position you need and the tool to move them is included in the kits.

I put the R1 front brake set up on tonight and I was quite impressed with the difference in stopping power, Maybe not a world apart but definitely way better than stock FJ. The R1 M/C reservoir is kind of bulky and in the way of seeing the fuel gauge but I'm going to try to deal with it for now.
