So it's been at least a year since the last time my fj has even been around the block. I just adjusted the valves and rebuilt carbs. Put about 75 miles on it and will say power delivery is nice. Choke does not work as I think I forgot to clean the passages the bowls. The brakes feel like there's pads made of soft wood. So good oak would have been better. And that damn suspension . But it runs, my original concern which was a light load miss has been fixed with the valve adjustment. All the intake valves had zero clearence.

Mate, given it has been some time since your bike has been ridden, the FJ is loving you long time. The FJ foibles you mention are normal.

Given you live in the land of lost toys, you have both the opportunity and time to make the most of the time off the road.

Personally, I've decided not to give in to 'moditis' and just go with the basics to make my FJs both maintainable and rideable.

Rideable to me means what you've done. Maintainable to me means modern tyres.

On a recent rally I took my 11 (original spec bike) and literally had the time of my life. A better bike wouldn't have improved my fun.

In summary, do what you just said, go for a ride. All the improvements only take the bike off the road and as we get older don't really change or improve our style, they just improve the maintainability of the bike.
