Hello all,

I had an interesting experience recently concerning "case savers" or "crash guards" for the FJ11.  I bought some NOS case savers from a wrecker in Illinois, U.S.  I looked over the ad carefully, checked feedback scores, double checked etc.  The ad seemed to have all the right info, so I bid and won.  When they arrived I tried to fit them without any luck.  :ireful:
I researched around the net, etc etc until I noticed on the parts drawing an extra lug on the lower engine mount rail, whereas on my FJ11, there is only one engine mount lug.  So it seems that North American FJ11's had an extra lug on the lower frame rail and Australian issue do not.  My bad, I did not expect that... :dash1:
So I guess I will be welding on a lug, or bloody big nut, to take advantage of my shiny new case savers.
Buyer beware for Aussie FJ11's though

Cheers, Gareth

You are right. It seems that some FJ1100's have an extra mounting bolt on the lower mounting bracket.

Quite odd as it doesn't show on the US Yamaha parts fische and my European FJ1100 only has one.

Looking at FJ1100 pictures on the interweb, you can actually find some with that extra mounting bolt.

Strange?

One hole/bolt:

Two holes/bolts:

1978 - Yamaha SR500
1983 - Kawasaki GPZ550 (sold)
1977 - Kawasaki Z400 (sold)

Weird.  I could have saved up and bought the Rentec ones offered by Randy, but I got these NOS ones for around $140AUD, which was a fair bit cheaper.
I suppose there are not many NOS case savers for the FJ11 around anyway, so there should not be too many people who fall foul of the one or bolt bolt hole dilemma.

cheers, Gareth
