ZX-10R

Long time FJ owner here, just joined a few days ago. I've had my 84 since the winter of 86, second owner. I got it with 2200 miles on the clock and it's up to 75000 now. This winter I did an engine swap. It has been jumping out of gear the last 10000 miles or so. I found an engine in the early 90's out of a wrecked 85 with less than 5000 miles. Also got the carbs. I just finished a few weeks ago, will be getting it out sometime in April. Very wet here in WA State this time of year. It's been parked since about 2004. I was on an R1 but spend most of my time on a ZX-10 these days. I still love the old Yamaha and would never sell it, excellent machine even by todays standards.

Welcome ZX, many here feel the same way about their FJs, they have other bikes, but the FJ is the keeper. We have a West Coast Rally in early June, first weekend after Memorial Day. This year it will be in Willits CA. Then the weekend after that the Central Rally in CO. Some FJ owners have come from as far away as Australia. Many active members here with a wealth of knowledge and one Yamaha dealer that has developed FJ specific upgrades. Check out www.rpmracingca.com. Randy attends most of the WC rallies. Independent of this site we also have an FJ ZeeMap https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=724879#

Fell free to place a pin if you like, but it is not required. It helps others see where their FJ neighbors are.

Cozy up to our digital campfire and get to know a few of us.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome to the group ZX. Yes the FJ is still a very good ride. Glad to hear you are keeping her running. Almost bought a ZX a few years ago. It was tempting. But as with you I didn't want to part with the FJ. Just a comfortable bike that fits.

Life isn't about having the best, but about making the best of what you have...

Thanks for the welcome and information. I don't get out of Washington and Oregon much but you just never know. I'll place a pin here shortly.

Thanks for the welcome. I've done a ton of work the last month on the Yamaha and it is road ready again. I haven't ridden it for many years, been on more modern bikes for a while now and miss the old Silver Sledge. I'm lucky enough to have 2 road bikes and a newer YZ. The FJ is good but it is no ZX-10 for sure. My 09 is a beast but I have ridden it 700 miles in one day too. Fits me perfect and I have nothing bad to say about it. My first deviation from Yamaha and I wouldn't change my choice if I could.

Welcome to the forums ZX.  Long time FJ Owner, short time N1K ('12) owner myself.  Unfortunately for me, I couldn't afford two bikes; so I regrettably sold my FJ a few years ago.

If it's not possible for you to make one of the major rally's, you might want to still keep your eyes peeled.  A few folks pulled together a mini ralley last summer down in 'The 'Gorge'.  We stayed out in the Klickitat area and hit up many of the funner roads in the area.

Again, welcome to the campfire.
