Due to a confluence of good weather and bad brakes on my truck I pulled the FJ out for some errands, truck brake pads among them.

My first stop was the bank, though. Two blocks away from it I glanced at the dash clock and noticed I have 8 minutes before it closes. So, I goosed it a little bit. Not anything crazy, I was going maybe 35 mph by my butt speedometer. I wasn't watching the dashboard, which is probably why I can post this.

I came up to an intersection, and just as I was entering it, I saw the classic no-look oblivious left turn from the oncoming lane. In a very short time I discarded the idea of veering right, as the guy in the car didn't slow down at all. I think he never really saw me. I veered left to pass behind him.

When I did that I saw that I was still not going to make it and braked. I must have either hit a slippery spot or overbraked the rear, as the rear broke loose and started sliding left forward. Through some combination of steering and careful letting go of the brakes I passed between the oncoming lane and the turning moron  sliding sideways on the rear wheel, righted the bike and continued straight, pretending  I meant to do that all along.

I have no idea how I managed to keep it upright. Glad I did. I fully expected to either wipe out, or hit something...

I kinda wish somebody filmed this. I don't think I could do it on cue.

Happy to hear you survived and can tell the tale. Mine involved a shallow ditch, two buggered header pipes and some less than clean shorts...

Ill-advised time of the year to be out on a bike in the upper mid-west.

Yesterday I was putting gas is my truck, when a H-D pulled into the station, gave a couple of obnoxious revs as he rode through, stopped briefly in front of the store, and then took off again out into traffic, in what appeared to me as to say, "Look at me, everybody, I'm riding in December!"

"I want to be free to ride my machine without being hassled by the "man"!
