Sparafucile

Greetings from a sunny South Africa 28deg C,

Im in the process of buying a FJ100, not to sure of the year, just that its red and white, needs a new seat cover and is missing the chin fairing. Ive started her up and the engine sounds sweet and since i got my first rz50 back in the 80's I have always wanted a FJ.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

Pictures!! we need pics!
Welcome too.
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

Got her on Sat, started her up then she died and wouldn't start??? Took the tank off and she started no problem, turned the fuel valve to pri position, put the tank back on started again only to die a fem min later, drained the tank added new fuel then noticed that the fuel pipe could of got pinched when i put the tank back the first time, also there is an in line fuel filter. Anyway got the bike running and drove her for about 18km. When cold the bike idles around 1000rpm but when warm she sometime stays just above 2000rpm, but otherwise the gears appear to be fine and there is no nasty noises from the engine.

Welcome.

You'll find after reading some of the previous maintenance posts that most of your described problems are pretty normal.
The early bikes (without fuel pumps) were very critical of fuel hose routing, and that putting an extra filter inline could create problems too.
Normal idle is between 1050-1150 at operating temps.  You'll need choke to keep it running while cold.
It's likely that your carbs need a clean, and balance (at least), but nothing you've described should hold you back for long.

Cheers,
Arnie

Sparafucile

Thanks for the info Arnie, Planning on doing the carbs, new fuelline etc in the next couple of days

Sparafucile

found the problem the idle screw was set in so that the bike could start without the choke???? Anyroad adjusted the setting now she purs like a content kitten when warm waiting for her to cool down to test her.

hey sparafucile!
good to see a few SA guys here!
where are you from?
how much did you get the FJ for?
almost done!

Im in Randburg, paid too much R18000.00, I say that cause I still have to register, roadworthy etc, looks like the bike has stood for a couple of years, there is rust on everything.
