my first FJ was an 86 Fj1200...... now I have a 92 FJ1200 ABS

Hey guys-

I got my first FJ1200 in 1988. It was an 86 FJ1200 and I rode it from Detroit, MI to Los Angeles, CA and then up the coast to the northern tip of Vancouver Island (Port McNeil) and back south to San Luis Obispo, CA and that is where I live today.  In 2000, I was living in Denver and bought a 1993 FJ1200 ABS on ebay for $5200- it had only 1250 original miles!!    I have recently fitted my third set of Avons.  I love my Throttlemeister and my Corbin seat.  I have the Y204 Givi Wingrack and accompanying Givi hard bags.  I just rebuilt all my brakes and am considering ss lines but I have concerns if this is a worth while modification on an ABS bike...

I have about 13,500 miles on the 93 FJ now and I will keep this bike forever I think.  Here are a few shots from my last long ride...




The FJ isn't alone in the garage- she is surrounded by vintage Kawasaki's (I have two-stroke issues) and a 740 Four that found its way here on its own..

I have been lurking here occasionally mostly to tap all of your collective knowledge on mods and fixes-  thanks much for all the tips!  Now if I can I will try to give back some..

my wife wants us to move to san luis obispo .

but I would have to polish the fj all the time or clear coat it because of the sea air.

Yup, I have a 70 H1 and a 72 H2 and a couple of the A7 350's.....  I used to have others but I am hopefully finding a place (and number of bikes) that I can be "finished" with these wild bikes..... it's the vintage candy-tone colors that get me. Not to mention the smells and sounds.....

But when it comes to any real riding it's all about the FJ.

Mark- I highly recommend the Central Coast area.  The job market is tough as nails here, so if you can, bring employment with you!  That said, the coastal air isn't as bad as you think. My method of combat is to "fog" my bikes in WD-40.  This is not the mess you might imagine and actually helps keep the bikes not only corrosion free but clean!  San Luis Obipso itself is situated in an interesting way geologically.  There are two coastal ranges that create a "funnel" with the choked end towards the coast and SLO sitting in the wide part of the funnel.  The result is that coastal layers (read salt air) are burned off by the sun before they reach the town.  SLO has roughly 300 days of sun with an average temp of 70.  I don't know any motorcycle that wouldn't want those conditions!

Thanks for the welcome! Now I am going to search the forum for good advice on an aftermarket shock.... I heard Wilbur's might be the way to go for an FJ like mine.

wd-40 huh, I just leave the grease and oil on it so it doesn't rust. :rofl:

Pismo beach would be the ideal spot or grover beach, arroyo grande .

But I don't think there is a lot of work for a A/C guy in 70 degree weather.

About your shock , most of us are using Penske with very good results.

traxion dynamics  is a good source and linderman engineering is somewhat local to socal.
