Hi,,
My 1994  FJ1200    Brake Master Cylinder is playing up .Instead of fitting new kit in M/C .
I can get both the  Brake and Clutch  Master Cylinders off a  2010  model  XJR1300 in great condition, like new

Can anyone/someone  out in FJ land PLEASE  confirm that the XJR1300 Master Cylinders will fit straight onto me 1994 FJ1200 .(Non ABS)
I will put R1 calipers on and Steal Braded Brake  lines on at the same time I put the XJR1300 M/C on .

PLEASE advise if its just a straight swap over

thank you in advance ,,
regards Phil from Aussie

Have you checked the specs on it? What size is the piston? 2 pin or 3 pin switch? Other than that it should physically fit and allow you stop the bike.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I don't know about the XJR m/c's. We don't have them here stateside.
I do know the FJ front brake m/c is a 5/8" (16mm)
I know the FJR m/c is a 15mm and offers better feel (vs oem 5/8") with the R-1 blue/gold spots.
I know the FZ-1 m/c is a 14mm and offers even better feel/modulation over the 15mm m/c.

I haven't tried any radial m/c's yet.

I suspect the XJR m/c's will fit just fine but the real question is, what is the diameter of the piston in the XJR m/c? If you look closely on the body of the m/c there will be cast in numbers, like 5/8 or 15 or 14 indicating the diameter of the piston bore.

ok thanks for all your help..
I have just bought the 2  XJR1300 M/C .
They will cost less than 2 Rebuild kits for my existing M/C.
So when they arrive next week I will update this to advise if they are the same and that they will fit onto my 1994 FJ1200.
THANKS AGAIN ,, regards Phil from Aussie

So would the FZ-1 M/C work well on a 1989 FJ?  I am swapping the stock calipers with  the gold dots and running Galfer SS lines.

Yep, the 14mm FZ-1 m/c works great with the blue spots. The FJR clutch m/c is a nice match to the FZ-1
Both have the nifty adjustable levers.

Although, there are several other choices out there for 14mm brake m/c, the FZ-1 is just 1 option of many.

OK  , I have bought the  2010  FJR1300 Brake and Clutch Master Cylinders ,
I fitted both of them onto my 1994 FJ1200 last night ,
Both of them bolted straight on with out any problems ,
The only thing that I found was  different is the Clutch switch under the 2010 M/C
,,The switch plug on the 2010 M/C has 3 pins or wires .
and the existing 1994 FJ1200 has only 2 Pins or wires ,
I just left the wires unplugged , Not sure what this clutch switch does anyway ???
Other than that  ,,Its all good ,,
thanks again for every ones help,,

If you leave the wires unplugged, you will find out what the clutch switch does...

Right now you will notice that you can only start your bike in neutral. You will have to find neutral every time you want to start your bike. Inconvenient when stopped at a signal with motorists waiting behind you.
With the clutch switch working you can leave your bike in gear, pull in the clutch, start the bike, release the clutch and go.
With the clutch lever pulled in, you want the clutch switch to close the circuit, so get your continuity tester out and see which 2 prongs close the circuit. Hook your wires up to those 2 prongs.

Sorry, it's been years since I did mine. I can't remember which of the 3 prongs on the FJR m/c I used, but it's easy to figure out.

Hope this helps.  Pat

Thanks for the info  . It is nice to find out what the clutch switch  does,
I will test the switch out tomorrow and find which 2 poles close the circuit and hook my existing 2 wires to them.
thanks again .  regards Aussie Phil

Or you can just short circuit the switch and forget about it. Who needs a clutch switch anyway, just extra stuff that can go wrong
