Hello all

Just started having a go at lapping in valves. My question is. When i see examples on you tube etc. it shows a nice circle on the seat and the valve that looks like a grey matte finish. Mine are coming out shiny as though they have been polished. Any thoughts.

Thanks

They will look polished because that's exactly what you're doing.

Thanks for your response

I understand that is what I am doing I was just wondering why I am not getting the same look as all the others I have seen . As mentioned before a nice circle that looks grey and a matte looking finish not shiny .

Thanks again

There is several different grits of lapping compound.

The valve and seat material might polish instead of grind,

As long as you have a nice concentric pattern on the seat and valve you are good to go.
