Hey guys I just removed the eight screws on top of my value cover and it won't come off I taped it with a rubber mallet and it still Will not budge so do I have to slide a razor in between the gasket to get it up
Just bought my first motorcycle which is an 90 FJ 1200 and I plan on rebuilding it and riding it like a beast!!

Sounds like someone has used silicon on it.

If you have to use a blade to remove it, make sure you have a new gasket, and don't use any silicon when you put the cover back on....... a smear of grease will hold it in place.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

spot on I do know what this guy did to this bike but I go my work cut out. He even used it to shot cut getting a gasket for the crank case cover has oil dripping every where. Also it seems like there is exhaust leaking from the cover is well I think that's why he used it to seal the screws on in the picture below

Wow, that has had a hard life hasn't it.

You will also need 8 new grommets for the bolts holding it down. The grommets are gaskets for those bolts. The bolts themselves are shouldered and must not be over tightened.... just snug them down and let the gaskets (bolts and circumference) do the job of keeping the oil in.

Cheers

Grease works perfect as Harvey says. Remember when you first run it after installation the grease will run a little and stink a bit. Let it run for a bit before checking for leaks.
