Since it was time to change the oil again, and to do that I have to drop the exhaust system (luckily it's pretty light-weight)
I decided to get Randy's oil cooler upgrade installed.

I opted for black fittings.

Removal of old cooler was an easy job.

Side-by-side comparison of the old 5-row cooler vs Randy's 12-row cooler.
The new cooler takes up a little less space.

Followed Randy's instructions on bracket installation to the letter.

Fitting it to the bike was a breeze.
Take your time, follow the instructions, and make sure not to over-tighten the aluminum fittings. :good:

Followed up with 4 fresh quarts of Amsoil, and a Baldwin spin-on filter.  :good2:

Life isn't about having the best, but about making the best of what you have...

Alan, I noticed you've got the fitting for what I'm assuming is an oil temp gauge, once you've done some riding with the new cooler can you report back on the difference if any in temps.

With summer here starting December, I might talk Santa into getting me one as the oil temps from the heat here can get very high, especially in built up areas to the point where I've thought about turning the bike off in fear of seizure.

I've had the gauge up to 140degC/284degF in traffic once and thought the bike was going to melt under me and was about to turn it off when finally traffic started speeding up, but even once under way the temp seemed to take ages to drop back to an acceptable level, so if the cooler makes a noticeable difference, then I'll put it on my must have list.

                                                               Thanks

Too young to be old but old enough to know better.

Alan,
That looks like a very nice, practical addition to our venerable machines.

I was a little envious when FJScott showed me his a few weeks ago!

Looks like something this Florida guy needs to invest in. Gets HOT down here sometimes.

...besides, Randy's gotta eat!  :pardon:
