Sorry, I am using a 180/55/17 on both.

Love the RA2's, but no tread in the center of the rear tire makes it hard to tell when it's done... then one day the cords start showing through.

I loved them too, but over 4 consecutive sets of them I'm sure I've thrown away 10's of 1000's of miles worth of tread by replacing them before trips for just the reason you mention, no idea how much life is left and not wanting to run out of tyre mid trip.

This time round I have a set of Z8's and next I'll try the PR4's. By all accounts the Michelins perform as well as the others but last way longer.

For further PR4 application reference, I run a 160/60-17 on a 5" wide rim. It measures 6 -5/16" at 41 psi. I have about 1/2" clearance between the chain and the tire.

Seems like you could run a 170 wide tire...
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Hi Mark,
Yes I have run a 170 Avon in the past and it was fine. I think the 160 looks fine and turns a bit quicker with the narrower tire. I run a penske raised to its max with forks raised about 3/8" above the triple.

No worries then, as long as you are happy with your set up. After all, that is what we are all trying to do with our bikes. Make them fit us like a deer skin glove.
