A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

This is the one thing that scares me the most when I'm out on my bike.

I left my FJ at work this past Thursday, and got a ride home with my friend John for this very reason.
We had some thunderstorms moving through Aurora right about the time I was leaving work.

Lightning is no joke!

Good call Alan!  There was more than lightning in those storms...

This was on the south side of Parker

Good call on the lightning Alan.  Colorado has it's fair share of strikes.  Glad the motorcyclist survived.  Good plug for wearing a helmet and having some good friends.  We worked on a flat concrete ramp, full of aluminum, if lighting got within 5 miles we shut the ramp down.  As you said "Lightning is no joke".

When we were out there in June. We were on top of twin cones on ATVs. And a thunderstorm rolled in real quick. Lightning struck real close to me. And I felt it alittle. Like an overall charge and it felt like someone smacked my left pinkie with stick. Scared the hell out of me. As soon as I realized it was coming headed down as fast as I could. But Dave got stuck in the snow. Right after the lightning strike. We got hit with marble sized hail. Painful. Luckily we had all our gear on. Cleared up by the time we got back to camp.

If you remember Dan when we rode Needles Highway in South Dakota this summer there was plenty of rain and lightning but no strikes real close. Didn't seem to bother Fred-- he will ride through anything.      Dave

Yeah Chris, I got some pictures of that twister as well.
It was just north of my work............We get some crazy weather here for sure.

Meh, I'm kind of ambivelant to my own existance. Not suicidal by any means, just don't care either way. If I go, I go and that's that.

Last time I was out on the ridge road (actually on a ridge) and lightening started to hit near by I couldn't have cared less. In fact, at one point I was cursing at it and daring it to hit me.

All I asked was that it be a direct hit and it was over quick. Other than that; storm be damned, me and the F were going through. The storm moved on by the time we got there, although I know my daring it and cursing at it had nothing to do with it.

I've also been in an upstairs window watching a tornado pass in front of our house as everyone else was in a dark corner in the basement. If I'm gonna go, I'm going to be looking it right in the face and living my last few moments,  not hiding in a corner scared somewhere.

Must be doing something right so far, I've made it to 50.

But yeah, i suppose you could say I've got a few issues to work through...... :wacko1:

Mate, I can help ya!

We got a fantastic FJ National Rally coming up in March, on THE best riding roads (officially) in Australia. (Our Southern Alps) on the 19th March.  http://motorcycleparadise.blogspot.com.au/2007/11/australias-best-motorcycle-roads-gar.html ....You`ll be staying here as our guest........http://snowlinehotel.com.au/wordpress2/

.......But more importantly, four days later is our Easter break when all motorcycle porn lovers go to Broadford Race complex (motorcycles only, but includes Speedway, Motocross, long track & Road Racing where you can even camp overnight on site with some Champions of the past... unfortunately most of them are dead!)  http://www.penriteoil.com.au/blog_post.php?id=37
....Both venues are separated by about 30 wineries which should be covered over the 4 days as race preparation!...... and and the difference in our dollar values means you can get here for bugger all cost! (Around a thousand bucks max!)

I am entering one 1978 Yamaha with bright blood red sidecar that will match your attire, (incl your face), if you will kindly swing for me during the event. (Ya only need to do it on the corners, the straights are just the time to relax and take in the smells of our friendly Australian environment.)  .....you sound to me like the man for the job.
We of course will return you and your new dinner plate eyes to the airport to guarantee your safe return.           :drinks:

Sounds like fun and Australia is one of those places I've wanted to go but have never been. Be a good opertunity to get some genuine Australian dirt on my Akubra.although I'm told the first thing a real Australian will do is pull it off my head and stomp on it a bit to get it properly "weathered"....

:shok:

I've done the monkey job before. Interesting and pretty physical. But I'm a little past that point now. Old, cold and broken up.

But alas, I'm so turned off on air travel now that I can barely stand a trip across Canada or to the UK.  Had enough of being cooped up in a tube for 5-10 hrs in little tiny seats with too many people to fill a lifetime.

All the way to Australia would have me pushing a bullet into my temple with my bare hands about half way there....

Now, a cruise ship from Canada to Australia: that I could handle!

:good2:

You are hopefully documenting this life of your's Dan?  You've told me of some great experiences you've had and we've all seen some cool pics.  Edgy stuff and fantastic feats up the current Raptor incident.  This one is so unique and fascinating.  You have been basically hit with lightening...  only a "little" zap to the pinkie, but lightening was the source of those electrons.

I'd buy the book.

Yah Frank I've been blessed alot. Guess I'm too dumb to learn. But I've been close to death more than a few times. I think that's why I want to live as much of every minute to the fullest extent as possible. Every second of every day is awesome.
