GSXR Front Wheel?

Last night I was looking at tires, and every manufacturer recommended a 3.5" wide rim for the stock 120/70-17 front tire.  So has anybody tried to fit an early GSXR front wheel (3.5x17)?  Does it fit?  (I tried the search function but didn't find anything.)

The most common and easiest way to put a 17"x3.5" front wheel on your 1100 is to do the following.....

Parts needed...

1989 or later FJ1200 forks. (does not matter if the donor bike had ABS or not)

1987/1988 FZR1000 or 1987/1988 FZR750R front wheel. These are hard to find, but diligent searching can locate one.

The above parts are 100% direct bolt on with no modifications.

Along with these parts, blue dot calipers are a good idea to install on the newer forks.

If memory serves me correctly. The FJ1100 came with a 16"x2.75" front wheel and Yamaha installed a 120/80/16 tire. If you can not locate a FZR wheel, a 1989-1992 FJ1200 17"x3" wheel will function perfectly as well.

I know that the tire manufacturers have their recommended rim width charts and such. IMO, if Yamaha and Thousands of FJ1100/1200 owners use a 150/80/16 on a 16"x3.5" wheel, I feel that a 120/70/17 tire will fit just fine on a 17"x3" wheel.

I got  much easier to find '89 FZR1000 front wheel (along with it's axle and speedo gear), drilled my FJ forks to accept the larger axle, and never looked back.

You could fit an '89+ front end. This will give you a 17" x 3" front wheel that fits a 110 wide tire. You can fit a 120 wide tire but they look a little pinched. If you like the corners then you need the proper profile for the best traction.

This is for my just-purchased 1992 FJ1200, not the 1985 FJ11 in my avatar.  So I already have a 3x17 wheel, but thanks anyway.  I like the tip on the FZR1000 wheel....   :good:

There is currently a 1988 FZR1000 front wheel listed on eBay. Look at the dirty white one. The powder coated one may or may not be a direct bolt on.
