rattle

i have a rattle where the exahust meets the engine

 :cray: hi i have a rattle noize where exahust meets engine it goes away when engine warms up. i gather the exahust has a lining in the headers? and can they be repaired?

Have you tried torquing the bolts at the header?  I'd try that first--it's free.  BTW, I would use a torque wrench and refer to the torque specs.

In my Clymers manual, under torque specs for header bolts it says"tighten securely). :dash2:

I believe that the clymer manual gives specs for torque in Table 3, and it relates torque to fasteners type and size. Just did mine and IIRC it's 22 Ft Lbs.

Are you running the stock exhaust system or an aftermarket one? The reason I ask is that if your exhaust gaskets are burned out or you replaced the exhaust and are still using the original gaskets they may be toasted. Unless there is a tight seal the the head pipes may be moving around a bit untill they expand due to heat. Or the headpipes may just be too loose and are moving around either way it should be an easy fix..

Is it an 1100 with original exhaust?  Those were built with double wall pipes and sometimes the inner pipes become loose and create some noise.
