I did this. Mistakenly bought the '89 FZR wheel, and simply sourced the 17mm axle, bearings, spacer, and speedo gear. Then drilled the forks and added a castellated nut. Never looked back.

Could You tell me what size this nut is please? Size and pitch.....
I have to buy proper drill bits and screw tap for new axle.

I think that I found final solution: 6203 LHA Ball Bearing.  Size 15x40x12

small reminder for keep everything together:

-Fj1200 bearing size: 15x42x13
-FZR1000 bearing size: 17x40x12

So no more drilling ;)

OK. work is almost done.

This is what You need if You are lucky owner of ABS model:

- front FZR1000 wheel - in my case with 17 mm axle
- set of brake discs - can be from various models like non-ABS FJ or many other 298 mm discs
- 6203 LHA Ball Bearing.  Size 15x40x12
- non-ABS 15mm inner spacer. Spacer from my ABS model is to short.
- non-ABS collar spacer (between fork and wheel bearing) because ABS one is to short again.
- FJ1200 15mm axle and speedo driver.

So far I did first 2 kilometres to petrol station. Despite that the rubber with came with those wheel is totally worn and have cupping ( I think that the world for this) There is lot of difference in bike feeling. Now I have to change tyre and enjoy.  :music:

Sorry, just saw this.

I'm not sure of the size of the castellated nut. I think I remember digging through a bin at a cycle salvage place. I did machine off a couple mils of the backside to get it to fit better and leave room for the cotter pin. Again, I haven't had an issue, and I ride the bike daily, as well as spirited-ly on fun runs.
