My son just picked up one of his dream bikes. It's a 77 RD 400 with 11,000 mi. Bought from original owners bro. has all maintenance records, another complete 76 RD (needs top end rebuild)w/titles, and an extra motor that is in great shape...$1000!!! This kid has a knack for finding great deals, and he's not a bad wrench either. Brag, ect...anyway, I rode it and I'm jealous.                                                                                                                                              Charley

He's in for a good time!  I have a '79, but rarely ride it.  F'ing wild when I do though...  Mine has the DG radial head and chambered pipes with 36mm carbs and some other tweaks.  Cannot keep the front wheel down at 6K rpm, it just explodes from under you.  No brakes and handles like shit, but what a ride!

Thanks guys! You're right Pat, these are special bikes, much like our beloved FJs. Years ago (the 80s) I had 5 RDs myself, a red/white 74, two orange 75s, a Daytona special, and a blue 77 like this one, cept mine had chrome Denco expansion chambers ,drag bars, rear sets, Boge shocks, martek cdi. 34 mikunis, ect that was my baby...dam that was fun bike. Memories... And yeah, the moditus has begun hes got new bars (BMW "S" style), mulholand shocks, new progressive fork springs and a martec cdi that came on the extra bike, and he's looking into exhausts as I type this! Hes really into RDs and also has a orange'75 350 that he bought last year dirt cheap. He starts the motorcycle safety course in June, so he'll be legal to run the road...exciting for him, and me!                                       Charley.

A great deal , wow those things are crazy fun.

I had one back in the day and went all out with the port job , decked cylinders and head chamber mods. Had a set of proto pipes.
I sold it before I killed myself . Kept dragging the footpegs on curved freeway on ramps .

Kinda a right of passage to have owned one and lived to tell the tale.
