Turn signals stopped working

My turn signals were working and have now just stopped completely. I have checked and replaced the fuses in the fairing and taken the left control apart to clean it up and check all the wiring, etc. Everything looked good in there. I would appreciate any suggestions on what to check next. Thanks

On the '84, the turn signal module is located under your fairing on the right side.
It's hard to get to unless you remove the fairing. Check the module for a loose plug.
The plug enters the module from the bottom so after time and vibration gravity can affect it.
I run a thin zip tie vertically around the module to help hold the plug connector in the module.
Take apart the plug and clean the contacts.
Get your multitester and check the power supply to the module. Check the continuity between the module and your handle bar switch.

If that does not do the trick then you can try replacing the flasher module with a new one. $100 (ouch) but they are still available new from Yamaha.

Awesome, thank you for the reply Pat. I will check that right now. Just finished swapping out the carbs since the other ones decided it was fun to leak fuel all over the ground. lol. The turn signals are the last step before getting this 84 inspected and back on the road. Would have been done last year but I went down on my other bike and shattered my leg pretty good. A year later, finally mobile enough to get back to it.

In the last week, cleaned and synced the carbs, (and the spare carbs I have thankfully). New tires, new chain, replaced handlebars after realizing the P.O. laid it down and bent the hell out of the originals. That is really weird trying to ride with bent bars.

Should be legal and on the road this week.

Glad to help. Now knowing that the PO laid 'er down, makes the dislodged plug even more probable.

Good to hear that you are on the mend.  :good2:

Took the fairing off, found the module (on the left side as you are sitting on the bike), clean up the connections and TADA ... turn signals working. Thank you very much.

So, i messed with that damn module for quite awhile, and I had some bad solder joints in it i believe. it would work if i held the connector and pressed it to the right. Other than that, nothing. I could get the cover off where the connector plugs in easily enough but couldn't get it apart other than than, so I cut the plastic shell off of it and re-soldered the connections. Pieced the plastic back on it with liberal amounts of electrical tape and its working like new :). Still may spring for a new one but at least I was able to get the bike inspected today with working signals.  :good2:

You can replace with a 2 or 3 terminal flasher.

Good luck
