so I'm looking at this bike as a restoration and flip it runs and rolls
was listed for 1500$ and we got it down to 750$ most of the plastic body panels are there there are a couple broken
it needs a battery 120$
fuel cap 30$
ignition  30$
front fender both sections ~180$
oil pump cover 90$
front tire 100$
new grips 30$
new belly cover 90$

my hope is i could get 2500-2000 out of it
i haven't run though the tune up costs yet and we are already 2000 into it unless my numbers are off
keeping in mind shipping to Alaska

any advise would be more than appreciated

+ 1... Trust us... That bike can be had all day for 1200 to 2200 in good shape.  Now if you want a bike to restore or work on yourself (you need a hobby right?) then the FJ is a great bike providing you don't go buying a lot of new plastic parts or go deep into modding it.  They are not a money maker. Check out the Bikes For Sale past listings in the forum here. The above is just an opinion but not unfounded.

IMO it would only be worth 4 or 500 bucks and that's IF you needed the engine for another bike.  Almost everything I see in that picture is of no or very little value.
Salvage Engine 3-500  (pig in a poke)
           Forks 150-200
           Frame with a good title ? 100 - 300

The rest of the stuff is almost not marketable. Large supply of those parts and they most generally don't sell.  Follow e bay for a while.

If you want to restore it the plastic bits will be very expensive. Good fairings are very hard to find and not cheap when you do find one. Small bits can add up such as a chain (150.00).  I don't mean to discourage you.  I just know there are better deals to "flip" with a lot less work.

Mmmmm, as George has said, if its a resto project you want to to do and have no time frame to finish, yep, can be fun. Biggest thing with these is missing plastics, ESPECIALLY the fairing for '91+ models are damn hard to find, even from the "reproducers".  Fixing yours up to sell and turn a profit would turn me grey I reckon.   ( errr greyer I mean)

However, heres what I'm working with presently http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=13236.0   still at the carb rebuild stage, this one is going to take a looooongggg time! Not rushing into it, just working on it piece by piece and hopefully at the end, I'll have a nice bike to bolt back together.

As already said, you will not make any money on buying and flipping that bike. That's just the reality of it.

The moment you pay sales tax on the title transfer, you've kissed any profit goodbye.

That bike will need a Lot-O-Work.

While searching for parts to fix *IT*, you're going to find another one, with the same perception of "cheap". Now you have TWO, and neither run (but they COULD!).

Alaska, you say? Shipping ain't cheap, you say?
