What is the solvent to use? In a harbor freight ultra sonic cleaner. For carb cleaning.

I've had good results using Simple Green in distilled water - a 50/50 mix works well for most jobs.  Increase the proportion of Simple Green in the mix for badly varnished carbs. If your ultrasonic has heat control, heat the mix to about 120-130 F.  I usually keep parts in the ultrasonic for 30 minutes.

If your parts aren't too gunky, say you're basically de-greasing them, Dawn dish soap works well.

I believe I used to buy Simple Green at Wal Mart.  I clean so many carbs for other people now that I made my standard carb cleaning fee a bottle of Simple Green, so  haven't bought any in a long time.

Is the bath big enough for the whole rack of carbs, or do you have to take them apart and do them individually?

Hey, Pat. Not sure if your question was meant for Cash or me. The ultrasonic I use most is too small to do a racked set. However, I have access to one that will accommodate four carbs. I disassembled my FJ carbs for cleaning because I went with the stainless fastener kit from RPM for reassembly. Most of the carbs I clean are from vintage singles and twins so can use my smaller ultrasonic.

Thanks Gary, yea, it was a general question for folks who have a ultrasound unit...

I use rubbing alcohol.  It works very well.  Not as good as the Freon we used 25 years ago, but pretty darn good.  YMMV.

That's my question Cash, I know the small version is a no go for the rack...
