FJ idles but dies if throttle is opened

Hi all

My FJ 1200 from 1992 rested for 4 years in the garage. After that I had fixed some issues and was driving her about 10km.
Another 7 months went by.
Now, when I start the motor it idles (choke of) but immediately dies down when I pull the throttle.
I suspect a carb problem.

Did I not clean it properly? Today, I had the main and pilot jets soaked in some carb cleaner. Floats and needles seem to move freely. The slides appear to behave fine (move back into position with a nice swoosh).

Any hint is greatly appreciated.

The pilot jets are still clogged, being the smallest they don't clean with a simple soaking. Ultrasonic bath works well and using a nylon bristle can also clear out a pilot jet.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Also, make sure you disassemble the idle mixture screws and clean out that passage by spraying  carb cleaner through the pilot jet port and the air pilot port.

Hold the pilot jets up and see if you can see light through them.  If not, then they're still clogged.

FJmonkey, Thanks for the advise
Actually,I could not really see the hole in the pilot jets when I held them against a light source. I thought, well, perhaps my eyesight is not good. Also, i do not really understand the function of the pilots. I believed they would provide the fuel during idling (a manual says "Leerlaufdüse"). But perhaps it is not as easy  :scratch_one-s_head:

I guess, removing the carbs will be even easier the third time. The first time was a nightmare, but today it went smoothly. I´ll find an ultrasonic thing.

Good find Dan, clean one carb while you are reassembling the cleaned one, do a few more times, then you will have a really happy FJ. Make sure you use a cleaner safe for aluminum. You don't want your carb pieces getting smaller and lighter and jets falling out.

There's a 2.5 liter job (larger capacity), for maybe twice the $$ too:
