My son has just recently got his first real job, Yeeha, whoopeeeee, yes, yeeees, yeeeeeeeesss (sorry I got a bit carried away, it's the first time in the 24 years since his birth he has been off my payroll and on someone else's)

This is the view from his office window. You could travel a thousand km's in any direction (except South) and the terrain would remain unchanged. Somewhere around there is the worlds second longest straight road at 90 miles.
The No.1 longest straight is in the middle east but terminates at either end, the highway below continues on for thousands of Km's with only the odd technical bend, as seen below.

You can fly for an entire day (or more) out there and not one damn thing would look any different on the ground.

It's harsh country, yesterday it was 47C with a 40kt wind and you can freeze to death at night.

A bit of trivia, this part of the coast has the highest concentration of big white pointers in the world and the underwater scenes for the original "Jaws" were filmed a little East of here at Port Lincoln. They used midget divers to exaggerate their size.

Against local advice, they baited the waters to attract sharks a few days prior to filming, then had to wait for them to disperse so it looked realistic, the water was teaming with them.

For the aviation types here, he is flying survey work in a Cessna 210, 4-5 hours a day at 200ft.

The point of my post? He wants me to ride over and visit him!! a 4000km return trip. For a bloke that avoids straight roads like the plague, if it happens it would only be an act of Fatherly love.(well, I might enjoy it)

Just tie off the steering and lean back like this guy.  Remember Newton's Law of Motion (or whatever) says that an object will continue in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force.  And there don't look like to be much external forces out thar.  When you wake up, you'll almost be there....

Congrats Noel , it is nice when kids start to pay their own bills .

I found that by charging them rent and utility's , then imposing rules about curfew and guests they soon figured out they could get a place of their own and be free of dads rules.  I gave them the money back as a moving out gift.

I have found if you make it too comfortable at home with mom and dad they have no reason to spread their wings and fly.

It appears your son did that literally .

Man, if I was going to ride that road, I'd want several kinds of radios, and a way to power each one with the bike battery.  Toss in a GPS, so I could actually tell somebody where I was, in case anything went wrong.

Aside from any mechanical problems, long dead-straight roads can be a hazard to normal thought processes.
