Hi Al. Can't go wrong with the FJ. I also live in Melb. South East suburbs. Hoping one day when time permits to do the great ocean road trip. I got an 88 midnight blue FJ. Mostly stock. They are a relatively easy bike to repair. I got my FJ on club reg. Good luck with the bike. A lot of knowledgable people here. Jeff

Hi All, just a quick update, don't need new brake lines which is a good thing however a new master cylinder rebuild is in order (one on the way). Clutch & rear brakes lines all bled and ready to go. New battery installed and fingers crossed an engine crank... :good2: yippee!! all 4 pots are free and pumping up and down....  :yahoo: Next full oil change, new spin on filter put it all back together add some fuel and see how she rumbles. I am hoping good fortune favors the brave

till next time

Good onya Allan, sounds like you're on the threshold of good times.

Not much happens to engines left idle for years unless badly stored. We are lucky in Oz that even stale or evaporated fuel doesn't cause too many problems.
Sounds like you've got it covered with brakes freshly bled, carbs cleaned, battery and oil change.
Let's know how the start up goes. Pictures are good, videos even better.

Do you like riding the GOR?  I ride down there a lot and we could hook up for a ride, Arnie would likely be a starter as well.

What better road to celebrate on!

G'day,
when I was first getting my '85 running, I discovered the stock starter was not up to the task of getting the engine turning fast enough.  I bought a new starter, 4 brush, off Randy in the states, about $180 I think.  Amazing difference it made, a great starter will help you get her running if you reckon your starter is knackered.  I tried everything on mine before I just replaced it.

cheers, Gareth

Thanks Noel, I was hoping that there was nothing to serious with the engine, cant wait to get the tank back on, add some fuel and see if she'll start. Yep done the GOR many times but not in the last 15 years...better get some miles under the belt before I head down again  :good2:
let's hope the starter is as good as I remember...thanks for the update Gareth.. will keep that in mind
cheers

Allan and others, this discussion on Allan's various restoration issues has evolved beyond the typical introduction, so I took the liberty to split the topic and move the posts pertaining to Allan's problems down to the "Running Problems" section.

The title of the new topic (located in the Running Problems section) is: Allen's Restoration Issues

Here's a direct link to that discussion: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=13176.0

Allan, I hope you don't mind. You will have much wider exposure on your posts when they are in the appropriate section. Folks don't tend to look in the "Intro" section for help or advice.
