E85?

I know a lot of people are trying to get completely away from any alcohol in their gas.   Has anyone done the opposite?  And turned to E85?

I know there will jetting required and concerns over compatibility of the fuel pump, lines, and seals.  Another issue would be reduced range per tankful.

Potential benefits could include cooler running - especially in summer in traffic or other times of hard use.

Anyone with experience with E85 in an FJ?  Other aircooled engine?  Other applications?

For anyone in Australia considering using E85 (or even E10) in their FJ:

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

I'd bet the main reason is the lean out if you simply pour on a fuel with added alcohol.   But then again, by those recommendations - you can't run 99.9% of the fuel available...

E85 is not so big here Chris......E10 is far more common.
Almost all petrol stations still sell Regular (91 octane), Premium (95 octane) and Super (98 octane)........ and as we know, our octane rating is figured differently to your octane rating in the US.
My FJ will run just fine on any of the un-ethanoled (if that's a word) but I do give preference to 95 or 98 when I can.

Never did ask..... did that turbo arrive?

my 2 cents...several in our turbo car club have moved to e85..camps divided on staying with it...great gains from the cooler intake/cyl temps as well as comparative octane rating of 115 or so....allowing several pounds more boost and a few * more timing...all good....but ...it can wash the cyl walls, milking the oil some...but worse can be the cleaning effects (of alcohol)and dislodging any gunk in the fuel system ..ending up in my injectors=bad.  also 20mpg dropped to 12 orso.  If one races alot, the price of e85 vs. race gas, @$14. per gal.,can offset the $need to upgrade fuel system components. IMHO ,as for our bikes...as stated, the jetting change would be considerable...also,i would hate losing that ? much gas mileage ...if we get around 40mpg now and it went to 30?or less.=baddeal... but...worse than all that would be that if the bike sits for too long, a white chalky mess can form...all the little passage ways in our carbs would get jammed.  Common,(east coast US) e10 has shown to have this same effect...so i'm not going to push my luck with the e85 in the bike.  Again, if just racing...different rules.
89 FJ1200 saphire.blu owned 8-9 years.  By far the most satisfying of them all. Constant tinkering got me the best bike you could ever want.
