Interesting link with some changes coming through.     http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Safety/Queensland-road-rules/Motorcycle-road-rules.aspx

The helmet laws are being relaxed a little. But the line that get me is

Motorcycle riders and passengers should be aware that after Queensland has expanded its helmet range in early 2015, it will still be an offence to wear a helmet approved under the ECE 22.05 standard when riding in other Australian states or territories.
Okay you bureaucratic numbskulls, so I can buy a helmet approved for use in Qld, take a ride across the border into NSW and get fined for it?? Does it suddenly become less safe?? Its disgraceful how this shortsighted nonsense can become law.

*sigh*

Yeah it seems a bit silly Ray that you could be charged over the border, hopefully the other states will soon follow suit.

I listened on a radio show about how some helmet manufactures wouldn't sell helmets in Australia due to having to destroy a certain amount

of their helmets in testing when the other countries testing was stricter but didn't count.

I can't recall the bloke who they were interviewing but he was the head of something or rather and reckons helmets will be cheaper because we can now / soon

get better/ cheaper helmets over the net if our local sellers don't want to pass on the savings. I wouldn't mind a better helmet than what i have,. $200  doesn't get much

of a helmet here.  ken

According to an article I read in the last week, these new Qld laws do just that.
IIRC, you're limited to 'lane splitting' at under 30kph and not on L or P plates.
Also, you're the one responsible for doing this "safely".

Yeah sorry! I just read the full article, 2015 the lane splitting, helmet and a few other laws being relaxed a little. Good steps in the right direction. Didnt realise there was a law that required you to keep both feet on the pegs when travelling and both feet on the ground when stationary. Glad they are gone.
