Brake stay bolted to lower foot peg bolt that was fitted with a longer bolt.

180/55 17 tire will just rub on the inside. You needed to look to see if you rack bolts are flush...

Thats it easy as

Where did you mount the brake stay to?

Harvy

Shaun, the bottom front foot peg mounting bolt is replaced with a longer bolt and the stay is mounted to that longer bolt.....I'm guessing with a nylock nut?

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

That's right Harvy the old bolt is removed and a longer one screwed in. The stay is put on the inside of the frame where the bolt protrudes and a nylock nut used to hold the stay in place.. This way no cutting or welding is needed..

Right on, so you can still maintain the center stand. I know some people are removing the center stand but for me I need to keep it, keeping the bike upright in the garage means I get to keep my other toy in the garage too. I am looking around at all the rear wheel mods and sizing up the best for me, when the head bean counter (AKA, wife) loosens up the fun money I'll get to it, in the mean time plan.
Thanks for the insight.

i would be very careful about mounting the brake caliper stay are to anything other than the swingarm......

if you take the shock linkage loose and move the swingarm thru it's travel  you will see what i mean.

everything on and connected to the swingarm needs to move with the swingarm.

I think I see the picture you are concerned with, a quick pencil sketch and this comes to mind. I see a possibility of limited travel between the brake stay and swingarm. If the swingarm travels down far enough could you in theory run out of rotation between the caliper end of the brake stay and axle end of the caliper mount (Problem binding). I believe in theory that would make the brake stay a solid point that is trying to be compressed by the downward travel of the swing arm as the points rotate over each others center. Swing arm traveling up would pull the caliper down (counter clockwise) and stress or break the brake line if there was not ample room, I don't know if there is enough travel to cause a interference issue between caliper and swingarm at full extension though. Remember it's just a pencil sketch and 4 pivots don't make a triangle.

I still like the rear wheel mod though, I think it looks great.

I have travelled 70000 km with this mod, some 2up with full bags and have worked the suspension to its max.. There are no problems with binding or clearance. Except the 180 rear will touch the inner guard a bit...

I have tested this option well and its the easiest to fit..

Cheers...... :hi:

Well like I say, I still like the mod because of its simplicity, and it looks great not to mention the other benefits, handling. And if its working then that just makes it all worth while, enjoy the ride.
