Hi guys, can anyone tell me if I can use parts from a 1993 FZR1000 for rear and front upgrade for an 1985 fj1100?

And if so would $400 australian dollars be too much for a roller?

regards Karl R.

Hi Grumpy,

Can you?  Sure.
Is it easy to do, or can you just bolt the FZR bits onto the FJ frame without any machining?
That's a whole 'nother question.

Some things you'll want to know include; difference in length of fork legs, how you plan to fit handlebars or clip-ons, steering stem diameter and length and bearings, and spring rates.  I'll assume you want to use the FZR brakes.  At the rear you'll want to know the swingarm axle diameter, the length between frame mounting plates, the length mounting design and spring rate of the shock.  Some 'minor' additional items to consider include adjustment of spring rates for the extra weight, alignment of the chain, as well as some potential hassles with the NSW RTA.
It might be easier to just swap the FJ lump into the FZR frame, if there's room.

A$400 could be a fair price for just the FZR forks.
IF you can use all or at least most of the FZR bits, its a steal.

I would recommend that before you part with your hard earned, you assess your skills and machining abilities.

Good luck.  Keep us informed in the projects thread :-)

Thanks Arnie,
This is why i asked the question first before galloping off to buy the fzr.
