Hi there!
I´m new to the forum and I´m new to my FJ110 -84. Bought it 2days ago and so far I´m pleased, just riding it to fill up the tank and then parked it at home. Nice sound, nice bike.
Now to the problem!
: Someone was also very pleased with the looks of this beautiful classic and decided to try and steal it last night. :diablo: :dash2:
So they put a screwdriver in the ignition switch and messed it up quite badly. So I still have the bike but the ignition switch is f***ed. :bomb:

Has anyone any experience of how hard it is to switch/replace it. Been looking around the forum for an answer but no luck.
My engineering skills is quite low but i still have some hopes to fix it myself instead of turning it in to a shop.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi there,

Yes, you can replace the switch.  Its held on by a couple of bolts from the bottom of the triple clamp.
You can get a new switch at a reasonable price from Randy at http://www.rpmracingca.com with either a flat key or a tubular key.  The only problem you'll have is that the tank and seat locks will still want the old key.

Welcome to the list.

Come in from the bottom of the upper triple tree clamp, and there are two (2) 10 mm bolts that secure the ignition switch cylinder. I use a ratchet and a long extension.

Randy (RPM) sells replacement ignition switches, one type uses tubular keys.

Welcome to the forum...

I had the same dame problem.. Only I was lucky enough that the switch didn't get messed up but the wires that came out the bottom of it did... Only thing that the thieves didn't know too much about was that it didn't have a cdi box in it, and it had a flat front tire... The thieves were I guess desperate enough that the pushed it out of my driveway, 2 blocks down the street with a flat tire, then cut the three wires and tried hot wire it... Managed to blow all the fuses out, and broke the pickup coil cover by laying it over in the ditch:(...

Buy a new switch.  Remove the old switch and take both switch's and your old key to a locksmith and have him or her install new slides to match your old switch. Not that hard to do.

Hi there again! After doing the theft-job better than the theif I´ve been able to enjoy a week of riding the FJ. Until yesterday when I decided to try to change the ignition switch.
So it worked out great, for a little while, at least until I tried to remove the upper triple clamp. I´m certain i´ve removed all the right bolts but the damned thing is stuck!
I would much appreciate any suggestions of how to get the d*mned thing off. Its not stuck against the forks but my guess is that it may be some rust against the bearings.
So i´ve tried showering it with lubricant/anticorrosive (in sweden known as the almighty 5-56).
Then I got a rubber hammer.
Then I got very violent.
Then I removed the tank in event that it would make life easier. but no.

So I got back to violence once again but still no go. that triple clamp hasnt moved a mm.

Does anyone have a clues of any other tool that might help?
Or anything else that might do the trick?

And yes,, I need to get it done if I´m going to be able to get that ignition switch replaced. As of now I can start the bike using a pencil, which works fine by me but it makes it just a little bit to easy to steal.

I know you probably did, but since you didn't specifically mention it...
Did you remove the nut from the stem?   :unknown:

By the drawing, the only thing holding the top triple clamp on the one bolt at each fork tube and the center streering stem nut.

Make sure it on the centre stand, just helps take the weight off the fork tube which helps remove top plate. If its still tight then place lever in gap on top plate where it mounts to fork tube and just pry it either side ever so gently and lift it off.

Hope this helps!

This has been going so good I almost forgot about it.

Well, since it is solved now, here is what I did.

Remove the tree clamp, now this was hard and it really did not slide off easily. By loosening both the upper and lower tree-clamp I managed to slide the tree clamps off the fairing. Still stuck though. but heating it and anti-corrosive made the trick (as well as that rubber hammer and the excessive violence).

With the tree clamp of, just destroy the screwes with a good metal drill (or in my case, several ones). It´s handy not to hold the tree clamp by hand but rather use a ferrule. Less risk of drilling ones hand when the drill breakes.

And thats it. new screwes, new ignition switch. on to other projects. Thanks for the help everyone.
