What type of tires are you running?

europe50

I'm running a Dunlop K591 in the rear and a front to match. They are great rated tires back in the day, (I have had them on many bikes) they hold up to great mileage and many years of use.
The new version of the Dunlop K591 is the Dunlop GT501 and it also got great reviews. Read the first Article "Dunlop GT501 replaces the K591" in Motorcycle tire review...

Ask the guys here about tires, they may have better recommendations.

Yea, Marsh likes the Avon Azaro. I'm going to go with the best price and a radial. Leaning toward the Avon. I'll know better this week.  RD

I'm a fan of the Azaros on the 16 inch wheels as well. I find them most inspiring.

I run the 16" Avons front and rear and like them much more the harder compound sport/touring Dunlops (K591 I think). I also found that the profile for the Avons were more rounded than the Dunlops, I ran the Dunlops to the edges (rear end only) and could boast to having a complete lack of "chicken strips". With the Avons, I am back to "chicken strips", but I feel that the Avons were an upgrade over the harder compound I used when driving mostly straight up Iron butt rides from my past. I really want to upgrade to 17" and have more choices of rubber. It sucks having the MOD bug with very little cash flow. Kookaloo ya all.

I posted my trashing of (The front) of my first set of Avons back in March when I did very little straight up riding. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=287.msg2088#msg2088
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I have done the 17" wheel upgrades and am running a Pilot Power up front and a Pilot Road 2 on the rear.

If you're still running stock 16" wheels, the Sport Demon is a good option also.

I've been running Metzler Marathon ME880's on my 89 for the last 4 sets and would highly reccomend them. Gotta say I'm an old slow guy, so I can't say how they are at warp speed. I can say I'm getting excellent milage out of them, enough to offset the higher price. :good:
