Does Anyone Have An Action Camera Like A "Go-Pro", Etc...?

I need to replace my camera & was looking at the Go-Pro type of cameras. I just read an article that listed several types of "Action" type of cameras. The article more or less states that the Go-Pro is the #1 as compared to the others. I was just wondering how complicated or easy they are to learn how to use, etc? Are they worth the $$$'s?

Any type of feedback would be welcome.

Thank you

I have a Go-pro 2 with the add on module so I can use my Android phone to control the camera.  There are a lot of accessories available for mounting the Go-pro and a Go-pro user forum.  I had a Tachyon camera prior to the Go-pro, the Go-Pro has more features and the menus are easier to use.

I use one as well as Mike R.
Mine is the first generation and takes great video.
Still learning, ( I know just enough to get it started for a ride).

Here I have the GoPro mounted on my case guard.

A good place to ask, I suppose... are any of you guys having battery life issues on your GoPro?     :unknown:

I noticed while in Colorado, the heat was zapping the life out of my batteries, that's why I usually pack 3 fully charged batteries as back ups while out on the road.

I recommend this website:

http://www.techmoan.com/

This is an English guy that tests action cameras (and other tech stuff) He mainly reviews cheaper cameras bought from China. The reviews are very detailed and professional. He is also a biker and often includes on-board video.

The batteries suck. I've got the extra backback battery and remote control and it still only lasts a couple of hours.  I've drilled a hole in the side of the plastic case and run a USB cord to a power point that I installed on my right inner fairing to resolve the camera battery issue. Unfortunately the remote battery won't last the day.

I'm satisfied with the quality of the video and am still learning methods of getting better outcomes.  The greens and yellows really stand out in the videos.

+1 on batteries suck. I'm doing the usb to the bike. Myself.

If you are interested in a medium-priced dashcam I have installed this one

For the money it does a good job. There are knock-off ones on ebay and amazon for $20, but they are not as good. It does not have GPS or WiFi, but it does have decent low-light capability, and a built-in battery to run it for a few minutes after you leave the car. It auto wraps the footage to an SD card. I have used an Eye-Fi card that connects to my home WiFi when parked in my garage to transfer the footage. I can also view footage on my Android phone using the Eye-Fi app direct connect while in the car. However, I rarely do that since it has a small screen that you can use to view recordings.

I have used almost every generation of GoPro. In my opinion if you just want some riding footage go with the GoPro Hero 2. Stay away from the newer ones as they have many issues. The GoPro Hero 2 has the best audio quality and battery life and is much simpler to use.
