Paint formula / paint code for 1990 Blue Grey Pearl

This color is not offered by anyone that I am aware of.  Being a one year color and not every 1990 was this color there is not much economics in dealing with it.

This is the formula that I used.  A PP&G paint supply can mix it for you or a shop that has a PP&G mixing station

Paint PP&G  "Envirobase HP (EHP)
Makes:       6 ounces
Color:        Blue /Grey Pearl

SKU        Desc.                           Inc. (g)                   Cum.(g)
T473   Med Metallic                     38.7                         38.7
T471   EX Fine Met                      84.6                         123.3
T409   Deep Black                       21.8                         145.1
T414   Rich Blue                          17.8                         162.9
T491   Matt Base                          2.0                         164.9
T443   Violet                              10.6                         175.5
T436   Red                                  1.7                         177.2
T402   Weak White                       0.5                         177.7
T452   White PRL                         0.6                          178.3

This is a very hard color to match.  There is a reason why Kodak uses 18% grey for calibration.  I have 3 pieces from 3 different bikes and with a very critical eye they are all slightly different. This color matches my tank dead on.

Not sure if I'm going resto or something else with my '90, but nice to know I have options...   :good2:

I was thinking about you, Craig and Mike when I posted it.  also have the pearl white that I used for the scoop.  Its a bit more complicated as it is a tri coat.
But I have it if you need it. Leon has a good match for the white also.

I will send you a picture when I get it back together.  I ordered some valve guide seals.  So that's next on the list.  I wanted to wait until after the rally but it is pretty bad so I feel that I have no choice but to dig in and change them out.  Seems like I was at this same point last year.... So I am either one year behind or 3 weeks ahead...... :dash2:

Hey George. If you're going to the trouble to repaint, you really should go with red and white... as the gods intended FJs to be... :bomb:

That's no problem Pat.  This evening I can post the white that I used.  It is a tri coat and a little more complicated.

Derek, I had it in my heart to go retro because it would have been easier to do and I really like how your bike came out.  But when that NOS fairing came up that just happened to be the same color as mine I just couldn't bring myself to repaint it.  Someone was trying to tell me something...  Then I got a very nice fuel tank the same color... What are the odds ?  So in the end all I had to repaint were the side scoops, front fender and the lower scoop.  The lower was actually usable, it had one scuff on the right side bump (that's the best I can describe it).  I just figured I was getting off good so I had better paint it while I was at it.

Anyhow all the parts are painted and ready to be put back on.  I have a small engine glitch that I am working on. The valve stem seal or seals are shot. Nothing like working under some pressure.............  :dash2:  They have been bad for a long time but have gotten a lot worse.  Got seals ordered from Randy.

Here is what I used for the Silky White when I painted the Lockhart lower, I used the ColorRite pre mixed aerosol paint. For the complete paint set the price was $116.00 and came with four 11 oz. spray cans. 1 each of....Primer, base coat, color coat and clear coat. You can also get the mix your own in quart, pint or half pint.

I am extremely happy with my amateurish results. I don't have a compressor and paint gun... :flag_of_truce:

From the pics Fred it looks really good. I have done some rattle can paint jobs and got good comments. I don't think I am a good painter, but I guess I covered the basic stuff well enough to fool them....

Thank you Mark.

The ColorRite rattle cans are Urethane. Much easier to spray than Acrylic or Lacquer.

You all know how much I love my Stormy Red and silver '84

But

I have to say that the Blue grey/white color combination on the '90 FJ is really my favorite of all FJ colors.

Pat, did you ever get the formula I had made up for the 91 Blue?
From what I recall, that was one of those colors that wasn't available.

I can also supply you with the tri-coat white pearl that I used on my 91 that is a perfect match for the factory white.
