For anyone that may be in the area or interested, I will be doing the recon for the FJ Rally Ride on the following dates, 29th, 30th Jan and 1st of Feb. If anyone is interested or in the area at the time, you are more than welcome to join us on the recon of the area's scenic roads. Rough plan at this stage is, first night at Jindabyne and the second night at Adaminaby. More than happy to meet-up with anybody that happens to be in the general area on these dates. PM me or post if interested. Looking forward to catching up with you all at the Rally.    Regards, Pete.  :hi:

Pete, I had intended overnighting up that way, if not at the Banjo Patterson, on Saturday to recon a road I have never travelled as a possible route to Jindabyne (any excuse!)

http://goo.gl/maps/H2787

But it looks like being too hot, 36 & 39 on Sat and Sun.  It's never too cold to ride but it sure gets too hot.

Noel, you're right about the hot weather. I'm running short of available time to do the recon ride, so unfortunately I can't postpone it any longer. Would have been good to catch up with you somewhere along the way. We'll be at the Banjo Patterson on Thursday night and the Snow Goose for Friday night.
Looking forward to meeting you at the Rally. Can't wait! Regards, Pete.  :drinks:

Had a great ride except for the extremely hot temperatures and getting a stomach virus on the ride home. Four of us left on Thursday morning but two were only along for the first day. Checked out a few roads I hadn't ridden before and was pleased I did.

As high as the road goes.

The view from our room at the Banjo Patterson.

Having a break at a scenic creek between Threbbo and Khancobin. That's a good mate of mine, Alf, he's booked
even though he rides a ZRX1200.

Great place for a cooling drink and a refreshing face wash.

One of the great lookouts along the way.

You can see how dry the country is in this shot. This was taken early afternoon with the mercury almost hitting 40*C.
Not the best riding weather. Only made you thirstier when you finally get back to the pub.
Will post a video or two as soon as I get shown how to edit them by my better half.
                                                                                                                                                    Regards, Pete.

Great report Pete. I absolutely love riding that country, and as you might remember, I had planned on being in Jindabyne on Sat night, but at 40*C, you're a better man than me! I cancelled for the heat alone.

Great photos and strange seeing the countryside up there browned off. Mind you, I believe the view from the bar is excellent.
Forecasts are suggesting it will be warm on the the weekend of the 8th. Those Queenslander's will only need their thermals and not their electric vests. The Canadian will riding in his underwear, or less.

Pete, what roads of interest did you discover?

Ray, most of this country is covered in deep snow during the winter months. There are still a few patches of snow when looking towards Mt Kosciuszko from Charlotte Pass. Here's a pic showing what's remaining of it.

Looking forward to getting back up there next month and catching up with you guys.  Regards, Pete.  :drinks:

Noel, you are spot-on about the view from the bar. Had plenty of time to check it out. Sorry mate but I didn't discover any "new" roads but a few that I hadn't ridden on previously. The road to Charlotte Pass is one that I'd only driven on in a 4x4 and was an absolute beauty on the FJ. The other stand-out was Middlingbank Rd, which runs between Berridale and the Adaminaby-Cooma Rd. The terrain seems to change every couple of miles along this road and is very scenic. We will be on this road on the Saturday Rally ride.  I'll get a map prepared of the ride and post it up soon.  Regards, Pete.
PS. It was bloody hot up there but there's no way I could ride dressed like that fella.  :wacko3:

Saturdays ride. Fairly long day but easily doable if Doug's morning carpark games don't go on too long. Lunch will be at the Khancobin Hotel, around two hours from Jindabyne. A good mix of slow to medium speed twisty roads and faster open undulating terrain. A word of warning though, a lot of blind corners, narrow and very scenic roads. Because we will be riding these roads on a weekend, a sharp eye needs to be kept for on-coming traffic. Between now and the Rally weekend, I'll get some maps printed off for those that may want or need them.
For those that may be interested, we will also do a Friday afternoon return ride to Charlottes Pass, about one hour's duration, and worth every bit of the effort (guaranteed).
   How many sleeps? Regards, Pete.
