hi all.i had a shorting problem that was blowing the 30amp fuse now and again.found the problem when i started the bike and seen smoke coming from wires at the front.turned the bike off[it was still running]and put the wee flame out with my hand.there was 2 melted wires so i took off the harness at the front and give it to an auto spark to patch it up.got it back, hooked it up and the bike turns over but no spark at plug.i have the harness back off and checked it[well went round it with multimeter getting bleeps and it seems ok but not really sure].is there anything that need reset?what should i be looking for next?

Simple things first. Is your kill switch set to run?  Have you checked all the fuses?  When you are starting it I assume it is in neutral and the side stand is up?  Did you determine what caused the wires to burn?  There was a short in a circuit somewhere to ground causing the wires to burn. If you can, explain which wire or wires burnt ? Pictures help :).

Check the wire to the horn, I believe that one stays hot and it has been known to chafe and short out causing similar symptoms.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

thanks movenon.it was the red wire going to the 4pin plug coming from the dash.it burnt where it was cable tied to the headlight frame[bare and touching frame i guess]i will take off harness again tomorrow and take pics.the bike did fire a few times but not enough to start.i took off the far left plug and grounded it ,no spark when turning over.bike in neutral, stand up.switch run and fuses ok.there is a harness on ebay i might just buy as this one is not in great shape[a few patch up's]

+1 on what Mark said above. That horn wire has been a known problem area.

Sounds like it wants to fire. Some info from the manual

Check the entire ignition for connections

Measure Battery Voltage: More than 12 volts

Main and engine stop switches are turned to "ON". Check for voltage (12V) on the "R/W" (red / white) lead at the TCI unit and coils.

If no voltage check the 15 amp ignition and wiring circuit.

Measure pickup coils resistance : 120 ohms

Check ignition coils for resistance (primary and secondary).  Primary 2.7 ohms , Secondary 12K (12,000 ohms).
Primary: is the low voltage side, the one with the plug connector
Secondary: High voltage side. Plug wires

Hopefully if it is wanting to fire then it is a loose connection.
