I am a 69 yo retired teacher (band director).  I have ridden since I was in the 7th grade.  Have owned several Hondas, and have owned my FJ1200 since new in 1987.  It now has 59000 miles on it.  Every few years I would get the MC trading bug, but never did trade since most of the bikes I could afford did not perform even close to the FJ level I was used to.  It still runs as strong as it ever did, but I know it getting really old ( Like Me )
I really think I would like a new FJR1300AE but there does not seem to be much to read about regarding the auto shifting clutch.  Does anyone here have the electric shift version or know if it is really going to be long term reliable?  Is it being discontinued?

ps  I posted something regarding fuel petcocks in the modifications section.

Welcome here Daniel.  I don't know if anyone here has has the FJR-AE, although I know a few folks have the FJR.  Nice bike from what I'm to understand.  From what little I've read it's not an automatic transmission, more of an automatic shifter, with a noticeably absent left side shift lever.

Other will likely chime in.

Anyway, welcome here.

Deen a rash of new Dan/ Daniels recently :)

Daniel,

Hello and Welcome.   :hi:

I am sure you would like the FJR.  If you are after the auto shift you can get a great deal on a new model.  They are still selling new model a few years out, and I do believe they have discontinued production for 2010.  The only thing I have read is it takes some getting used to at low speeds while turning.  That is when you tend to pull the clutch to take momentum away from the engine, but with the FJR auto you have to let off the throttle and roll.  Takes some getting used from what I gather.  Check with the FJR board and you should find someone to give you a more hands on opinion.   I almost purchased the FJR, but after some modification to my bike I decided to keep it, but I am only 48.  If I were a little older and had the funds I would probably rather have a new bike with the modern tires and shocks/forks technologies and just put my FJ in the garage for sentimental rides.  I would still like to own a BMW sometime in my life.  But, that is just me.

Ride on... :good2:

Later, Phil     :bye2:
