I have ran across this myself with getting a head rebuilt. I tried to have the head rebuilt locally. After 3 months, I got fed up with the delay and shipped the head to Randy. With shipping time, the turn around was less than 30 days from Kansas to California and back.

Don't forget, I had a knee ACL revision surgery in that time frame as well... :hi:

Randy - RPM

I wasn't sure if I should have mentioned that, but since it was brought up, I will elaborate

Talk about awesome customer service. :yahoo:

Randy received the head the day before he went into surgery for his knee. He had the head disassembled, cleaned and sent to the machine shop before he went under the knife. While recovering from surgery the head came back to Randy and all the cleaned parts along with the new parts were all assembled and shipped back to me.  :hi: :drinks:

He is amazing to watch. I don't know how he can do it.
Assemble a 16 valve head while standing on one leg (other was in a cast) and...using only one hand.....he had his shop phone in his other hand giving advice to his other customers.

Don't forget that he is a NATIONAL champion.
He has many, many other clients besides FJ owners, yet he always seems to have time for us.

We are very fortunate to have him on our forum, and have his parts and services available to us.

If the index groove is not held on the index screw then the damper rod is now where ever it wants to be in a 360* radius and you have no way of knowing what adjustment position the damper rod is set to.

99% percent of the forks I build here are just that way, not indexed properly. That's right, 99%, I have only disassembled one set of forks that were both properly indexed. The reason they were properly indexed was because they had never been disassembled from the date it left the factory.

It is time to pull them all the way down and start fresh...

Randy - RPM
You´re right it wasn´t indexed, in fact it looked worn or twisted ( the screw) By the way the photo I just saw of that set of fork legs on an FJ12 was super. I had mine set up like that and the bike fell over twice! I couldn´t pick it up and neighbours helped ( twice). Bloody éll.

PS, if you zoom in on the picture, you can see the far edge of the groove has a depression where it was tightened down on the index screw.
