I hope I can get mine half as good. I used some 36 grit also and did the sanding and chemical things to get the coating off and the sanding would work but it took a lot of time and was still hard to get in the corners and around the welds.

Look closely at the welds on my swing arm. I blended the welds so they polished up as nice as the rest of the arm.

I see now I have to up my standards........ :dash2:   I went out and worked on the swing arm for a while. I am going to drop back to 80 grit. I just need to go up and locate some good production grade sand paper.
Damn, that thing shines Leon...............

George,

I am sure that your FJ will be back to looking as sharp as it did prior to this years WCR. My guess is it will look even better. :drinks: I will make sure I park mine away from your, Pat's and Leon's at the WCR.

R6 shocks are a bit weak on the spring. I think RT rates the stock spring at 9.8 kg/mm ? I plugged in 220 lbs at a bike weight of 568 and they came up with 11.3 kg/mm. I think an 06-07 CBR 1000 shock spring is the same diameter and length (??) and is rated 11.5 to 12kg/mm.

Please don't take my word as gospel, I have been researching something else and have bumped into some of the R6 stuff. RT sell's the correct springs if all else fails :). Just stuff to clutter your mind up with this winter. A drink or two will mellow it out  :drinks:

It was just information I ran across. I have a F4i rear shock with a 12 kg/mm spring and it is in my opinion OK if you are under 220 lbs. I think I would go up to a 15 - 16 kg mm spring.

I have a brand new zero time 2012 R6 shock and plan on changing out my swing arm with a polished one this spring so I am giving some thought to adapting it in with a 15 - 16K spring at that time. Spring rates depends on the linkage ratio etc.. No easy answer in a custom application.

As a note if you haven't ran into it, the aftermarket springs are generally straight with no tapper and require an after market seat/collar, a $3.00 item from RT and also the free length will be different requiring a spacer.

Best price on springs that I have ran across is http://www.eshocks.com/hyp_make.asp I think the R6 springs are 2.25" x 6" ? You would have to measure your 03 shock. Most of my digging is centered around an 08-13 R6 shock. Race Tech has a pretty good site to dig around in.
