Engine Bars & Handlebar Risers.

After recieving my box of goodies from Randy last week comprising of Engine Bars, Handlebar Riser Kit, and Spin on Filter adapter ( all top quality stuff btw ) I finally got the chance to start fitting.

The engine bars took no time at all to fit, and after a small issue with clearance on the stator cover, fixed by putting a small piece of steel under the bottom u bracket, everything looks great and will make a perfect platform to mount spotlights and maybe even some highway pegs.

The handlebar risers were also quick to fit, undo 2 allen bolts, lift bar off, put riser on, refit in less than 5min each side. however, with the riser on, I noticed there was only about 13mm of handlebar sticking out for the bar to grip on to.

Although I'm sure everything is perfectly ok that way, for personal piece of mind I dropped the forks through the triple trees a bit to get a bit more purchase for the handlebars to grip on to.

The problem of dropping the forks though, is the spiffy RPM caps don't go right in flush, but personally, with the o ring fitted, cap held down while tighting the bolt, it won't move and to me looks pretty good that way anyway.

The riding position is so much better now, sitting more upright makes the bike more comfortable than before and seems to handle a bit better too. All in all, very happy with the upgrades, just have to wait now for the next oil change so I can fit the spin on filter adapter.

Tony,

Everything looks good and I am glad you are happy with the products.

You should drop the fork tubes enough to get the o-ring into the handle bar clip. That will prevent the plug from vibrating loose as the o-ring absorbs the vibration(s).

You will have no troubles with the clamping of the clip to the top of the fork tube and the plug; that is why the plug is required.

There is probably more than 100,000 miles of riding with the risers and the forks in the stock location and no reports of anyone ever having one come loose.

And, heck you can install the oil filter adapter any time, you will only need to replenish the oil lost in the filter change, not the complete sump.

Thanks for the reassurance Randy, It's just seeing how much fork was poking through before, and then after the riser put on had me thinking Mmmm... is that going to be enough. Obviously it is, so I'll drop them a bit to at least get the o rings in the clip.

Don't want to lose those fancy caps :good2:

Those cap look good!

Thank you. The machine shop took extra care when finishing them and they are almost "polished" when I received them. I am really happy with how they turned out and once Bones drops his fork tube slightly the o-ring will not be visible and they will look even better.

Good write up Tony. I was thinking of getting the risers but by fork tubes are currently currently sitting with the fork caps in line with the handlebar clamp. So I would have to drop the front an inch or two to provide room to fit the risers? I'm not exactly sure if this is right, any thoughts on this?

X-Ray,

If you have lowered the bike then the cap might be able to be used. The cap is really a function that is required for the proper clamping of the handle bar clip when the forks are at the stock location. The cap prevents the clip for clamping only at the bottom and distorting the bore which will allow the clip to come loose.

On my wife's bike, I have the forks raised in the triple trees as fat as I could go, so even with the handle bar risers the fork tube still stick out of the handle bar clips and I do not/cannot use the cap.

I hope that helps, if not let me know and maybe shoot a picture or two so I can see what you are referring to.

No Ray, You don't have to touch your forks at all, My bike was the same as yours with the fork caps in line with the top of the clamp, it's just with the riser fitted, there was only about 13mm of fork poking through

I didn't think that was enough so I dropped them down to 20mm so the bar had more to grip onto

After Randy assured me I'd have no problems with the stock settings, I put them back to 15mm which is only 2mm more than standard. The caps go in further now and look a lot better with no o ring showing

You need your sunnies on now :good2:

After I did that, I deceided that with more than 3,000 km to go before the next oil change, and not wanting to wait, I fitted the spin on adapter as well. Only lost about a cup of oil, looks good, and a lot easier to change in future

I recomend the risers Ray, so easy to fit and a lot better to ride.

glad you give the risers the thumbs up Tony, deffo need to get some but just spent a 100 or so on some rare c72 bits ive been chasing for a year or 2, all you need now is some go faster mods, hehehe, sorry ,  , ken

Ahhh right, its clear now. So the risers are half the height or thereabouts of the standard bar clamp, and leaving the forks in the standard position only left you the 13mm to put the bar clamps back on. Got it.

On my list to do     :good2:
