Inner Fairing Panels

Hi guys,

I bought my FJ 1100 about a month ago and have upgraded the brakes, installed Randy's spin-on oil filter, changed the oil and plugs, had him synch the carbs... Today I got on the bike to actually ride it and the clutch master seems to have blown out. Hehehe. But almost worse -- for me anyways; I know how to swap out a clutch master cylinder -- the left black inner fairing panel has somehow cracked. This is exactly the problem that drove me ape poo on my old FJ years ago. So I'd appreciate any help in the following:

1) Knowing what these things are called? I'm referring to the black plastic panels that hug the tank and meet the clocks inside of the front fairing. On my FJ 1100 the left one has a compartment for the fuse box. On my old FJ1200 I think it had a toggle switch or choke knob. I can't search for a replacement on Ebay (or fix here) unless I know what the heck it is

2) Is there any fix for this? That is, if I can find an unbroken panel, has anyone epoxied sheet metal, fiberglass or anything else to the bottom of this so it doesn't shake apart?

3) Are they needed at all? If I remove these, will it put pressure on the fairing itself and shake that apart? I'd prefer space down there to seeing new spider webs form every time I go for a ride.

I ordered a replacement master cylinder from a ZRex and that should be here by next weekend so I can keep my weekly date with the old girl *grin* Looking forward to next year when I will spent more time riding the bike than working on it, but it is a low-mile motorcycle and I knew I'd have to fix.

I believe they are called inner fairing panels. I have seen them for sale on EBay .

I searched for a good ten minutes and came up blank on the 84/85's.

I take blame for some of it. It had a hairline crack and I must have hit the side of the plastic taking off and installing the tank. It's broken up to the fuse box from the vented area and down from the upper right hand corner.

I find a couple on Ebay, but they're wicked expensive:

That is ABS plastic and can be welded. Look for a plastic welding shop near you. A member near me showed me how to weld my fairing tabs back on.

Yep, I'll have to research ABS repair. I live in Mid-Maine and I doubt there's anyone local, but I wouldn't be against sending it out or maybe even tackling it myself. For what these look to be going to on Ebay I can probably monkey something up...

I searched utube and found a few "how to's" on welding abs with abs. The plastifix abs epoxy is really expensive. Welding yourself is the way to go.

The 1100 fairing is all fused together....there are no separate side panels or dash plastic.  The four different models all use a different bracket.
