Howdy. I have an 84 FJ1100. Shes kinda cranky during start up. Once I get going Usaully 5 minutes into riding the Tach will start bounce a whole bunch and the bike will die if I pull the clutch in. It seems to do it around 3000 4000 RPM. After the bike dies the engine will turn over but wont start. The remedy for this is turn off the bike and turn it back on and it starts right up. With a little practice I can do this at highway speed. The other worry is the bike really doesnt want to idle. I adjusted the idle to where it should be before this problem occured.

Good morning in Seattle ! Others will be on line soon with more thoughts. If it were me I would check all the electrical connectors especially the ignition pick up and tach signal connector and the connectors at your CDI/TCI box. At least to start with. Look for loose connector, pinched wires, pins corroded etc.
I am not that familiar with the layout and exact wiring on the 84 but I think the TCI box is around the battery area check for corrosion. While there check all the rest of your wiring and fuses just because.  :good2:

I filled most of my connectors with dielectric grease since I was running on the salt flats. I imagine salt gremlins are a large part of the problem. I will give everything another once over thanks.
