Is there a simple way to change the fork oil other than totally dismantling the unit?

By dismantling, you mean completely? Don't need to.
The fork doesn't even need to be taken of the bike to change it. Its very easy to do and hardly any mechanical skills needed.

You unscrew the small phillipshead on on each side of the lower forkleg and drain out the oil. Unscrew the top nut at the handlebar and take out the spring and refill to spec, or preference, and compress the forks a couple of times to press out any air.

Oh, and the forks should be compressed while refilling.
If you don't have a manual, i strongly recommend one.

Cheers
Whant to check out my photos on the bike??

If you choose to do this, rather than disassembling the fork legs and cleaning them out, make sure the front of your bike is supported before removing the fork caps.

No video, and if that whistling fork cap had gone a few inches to the left, I would be watching videos with one eye I reckon, phew ,
