For a 85, what front end is a bolt on, to get better brakes, and a 17" 3.5" wheel, and no machining,just buy and slip out original and slip in new one, or at worst case, replace triples and entire front end.
"88 and up FJ forks, '87-'88 FZR 1000 wheel, Rotors from a later FJ, or a TDM 850 or a FZR 600, blue spot calipers from an R1, FZ1, (ealier models not the radial mount) or YZF 600R, any year. This stuff will bolt right on, no machining. You will want service the forks, but you'd want to do that anyway.
how about 96 fzr 600 forks?
I was kinda looking for a one item purchase and slip it on, instead of a assortment of parts that I have to shop for, but if the parts list makes the best front end...
Then how would the above forks be to start?

The only bolt on complete front end swap that I am aware of would be from a later FJ. The YZF 600R would be the better set up but a bit more work. It would require some machining, and I believe you would need to source some parts from FZR 1000 triple clamp. Not sure on that one just going from memory. I have no experience with the fzr forks.
Updating bikes this old takes some thought and creativeness. I don't think you'll find anything that will be plug and play, short of taking it to a builder. Traxxion will convert your forks to cartridge type for $1000. We are lucky to have this site and thoughtful people willing to share their experiences. When you decide which mod you want to do, the folks here will walk you through it.
I did the conversion I mentioned earlier on my '86 and I am pleased with it. If I were going to do it again I would pop for the YZF600R mod. I'm not in a hurry to run out and change it, but it was supposed to only be an intermediate step, but the later steps fell through.
I will have to start shopping for parts.

Fred, you could go ahead and get the YZF600r setup, and sell your current fork... it's well worth the effort.

The FZR600 forks are 39mm and the FJs are 41mm tubes
