Hi all, Anyone interested in doing a run to the Haigslea Motorcycle Museum, then on to the Historic Nobby Pub on the outskirts of Toowoomba. If so, I plan on doing it on Sunday 8th September, and seeing as I live local I can meet you at BP Blacksoil around 9.00am and go to the museum from there.
Opening hours are 9.30am - 4.00pm, so if we get there opening time, spend an hour or so looking, should make it to Nobby around lunchtime. Bring an appetite cause they are large meals.
I plan on going through Gatton then up the Gatton - Clifton Rd to Nobby, and return home down through Cunninghams Gap, but depending on where you live you might choose to take a different way home.
Let me know if your interested and I can start making arrangements.
Thanks Tony.
Tony might be interested if I'm not working

Mate, that`s something I wouldn`t miss. Will definateley be there, rain or shine. :good2:
Friends tell me it`s the best fifteen bucks you`ll ever spend, the Coffee is free and there`s over 200 bikes dating from 1905.
Until I googled it I didn`t realise Nobby was Rudd`s Pub - The home of "Dad & Dave" ...I`ve often wondered what happened ta Mabel...is she still in Snake gully? http://www.ruddspub.com.au/history.html. (http://www.ruddspub.com.au/history.html.) Spring will be in tha air and a ride through the Somerset twisties should clear out any redbacks, me thinks!...Looking forward to catching up with you guys :drinks:
gday tony, see you at the servo,

Yep, will be there. The ride from Gatton through to Clifton/Nobby via Ma Ma Creek is fantastic. My brother just moved to Clifton, and is wanting to get back into bikes so I think he would like to meet us for lunch as well at Nobby. Coming back through Aratula is good, I then shoot through Kalbar/Peak Crossing to Yamanto ---> Springfield. Thats an interesting ride to Peak Crossing, hills/plains, very scenic.
Bring on the 8th!

Don't worry Ken, :empathy2: I've had plenty of days like that not knowing what day of the week it is, or in your case what month. :rofl2: I'm bad enough sober, hopeless when I've had a few.
Got up one morning, got dressed for work, about to make my lunch when I realised it was a Saturday :dash2:

oh well, i had a senior moment, whats worse is about 6 months ago i forgot my keycard pin number, my daughter and her friend thought it was funny, it nearly made me feel sick, ive had that number for years , it was like forgetting your birthdate to a degree, ive done the get ready for work thing to but in my case it was a public holiday, anyway i'll see you in september the day after the election, ken
Going to Pittsworth tomorrow for work, so I've decided to take the scenic drive from Gatton--Ma Ma Creek--- Clifton---- Pittsworth. Should be good. :yahoo:

No worries Neil, Hope to see you there,
I should clarify to everyone which servo we'll meet at as there are 2 BPs at Blacksoil.
It'll be the one coming west from Brisbane just past the Caltex and before all the roadworks.
Tony.
Yup. Will be there. Trying to drag my neigjbour along too hes 70 rides a canam spyder. Out of curiosity therrs s 1tx near toowoomba that has been painted maroon. Anyone we know?
Cheers
Neil
p.s. If he is unknown i will follow him next time i see him and assure him hes not wierd and get him to join us.
Neil,
Harvy's '91 could be called maroon, and he's somewhere in/near Brissy.
IIRC he's got FZ1 bits on both ends if it helps ID the bike.
Arnie
You coming to Jindy this March?
Peta and i will be coming to Haigslea, but probably will not be able to make it to the pub :cray:
Cheers
Harvy
Thanks Harvy, the more the merrier, Looks like it might be a good turnout, Be good to see all the FJ's cruising along the highway together, something you wouldn't see everyday. :good2:
Tony.
Ok, anybody else interested in doing the ride to Nobby pub, please let me know before Monday so I can ring up and book a table. It can get busy there at times on the weekends so I want to book in early.
Thanks Tony.

I'll definatley be there Tony, plus my brother who lives at Clifton will be joining us as well, (trying to get him onto an FJ, lol)
No worries Ray, everyone who has responded so far is on the list plus their extras etc... It's just I want a rough estimate of how many are coming so I can let the pub know, then on the day let them know how many there actually are before we get there.
I've done rides before where I've got 2 replies and a dozen people turn up, I'ts good to have a bit of an idea of how many are coming. :scratch_one-s_head:

see ya at the servo tony, ken
Righto Ken.
Here is where we are going for lunch on Sunday http://www.ruddspub.com.au/dining.html (http://www.ruddspub.com.au/dining.html) , I still haven't been inside this place, looks nice.
My brother (Shane) who lives at Clifton said there has been an increase in police patrols in that area, and as a matter of fact on the way back from Leyburn recently through Ma Ma Creek 2 motorcycle cops were heading the other way doing a great rate of knots. But the countryside out there is just great, the road just rolls through the hills (apart from the tight spots) and its so easy just to sit on 120-130 and watch the scenery go by, (in the car anyway, :rofl2:)
Looking forward to Sunday.
Seeing as I am an honest law abiding citizen, who never speeds, any boy racers amongst us on the day that wants to cut loose on the twisties, feel free to do so.
Don't feel obligated to sit behind me if you think I'm going too slow even though I'm leading, just don't get too far in front of me in case you miss a turnoff that I could take,( namely Manapouri Rd.)
These roads are fun at high speed, but like Ray said, the cops are out there.
Tony.
After the general mentioned he's chickens strips are 4mm and 8mm respectively i wouldnt even try to keep up with him, i,ll stick with you bones , a speeding fine would sort of taint my day,

Hey Neil, we finally get to meet! :yahoo: ...See ya Sunday :drinks:
I put an order in for fine weather a few weeks ago, and it looks the big fella upstairs has granted me that wish, so with good weather, good roads, good crowd, good destination, it should turn out to be a good day. :good:
I'll get to the servo about 8.30am and will be waiting at the far left hand side as you come in the driveway.
I recommend everyone who are going to the pub after the museum to top their tanks up when you get there so that everyone is on a full tank before leaving. ( your choice)
Nobby township does have fuel( Premium as well) but could be a bit dearer. Not sure of the distance, but it's about a 1.5hr ride from the museum.
See you all on the day. Tony.
Anyone coming from the North want to meet up on the way?
The General and I are meeting at BP Mooloolah at 7:15
We are heading through Peachester,Kilcoy,Summerset down The Brisbane Valley HWY to Blacksoil.
Unfortunately I wont be joining you for the run up to Nobby's.
See yall tomorrow.
Darran
Well, what a great day I had, perfect weather, the museum which had a great selection of bikes, some I've never even heard of, twisty roads , good company, and a good feed at the pub.
Roadworks that left loose stones halfway around some of the corners kept you on your toes, but luckily no dramas.
Thanks to Doug, Ray, Darran, Neil, Harvy & Peta for turning up.
When I get the video footage sorted out, and put on YouTube I'll post a link.
Tony.
Was a lot of fun Tony. Museum was great, food at the pub huge and tasty, beer was icy cold.
I'm a bit tired now, trying to stay awake to watch the F1 from Monza, had a good run home. I turned off at Harrisville then followed through to Peak Crossing and Yamanto, sun was setting and I thought I don't want to be out here when all those pesky kangaroochies start hopping around. Got home around 6.15pm. Bike was good, you've got me thinking about those Hagon shocks now. I didn't realise there is an Australian distributor for them. Still don't have any money, but anyway......
Time for a coffee and watch the F1, :drinks:
Thanks again Tony. Got home at 10.15pm. What a great day. (Nice pace too!) Had no Idea on the variety of species at the museum. What a coincidence running into FJ Paul. ....and how Australian is Rudd`s Pub. A little gem loaded with Aussie History & humour that I didn`t know existed...
On the way home with just me, the forest and a setting sun, I was thinkin that maybe I do need the rear wheel conversion. She seemed to want to follow those little lines in the tar and around 130 or so, got real wobbley overtaking some cars...seemed ta get worse when I slowed....a rear flat tyre does that apparently! (Never had one on a road bike before!)...Lucky I wasn`t hookin into some of those twisties at the time...Puncture kit didn`t fix it...but eventually enjoyed the company of David & Daniel Cannel from DBC Mechanical services Toogoolawa, as they drove me the last 140klms to my door, in their Tilt Truck (at no cost to me)...I love Country people!. ...Pics to follow. :drinks:
You copped a flat General??, Wha???
Gees what rotten luck, but good you had someone to help get you home. When you said you arrived home at 10.15pm, I'm thinking which freakin way did you go????
Flat tyre. That sux.
That cruiser mob I was waiting for were a no show.
All was good .I sat waiting in the Sundowner hotel in front of the museum.
Watching the locals yocals come in for there Sunday session.
Had a great ride home around the dams.
Took the scenic route through Malaney and Kenilworth.
Had everthing from tight twisties to high speed sweepers.
As always was great to catch up with my fellow FJ'ers
Thanks Tony for organizing a great day
See yas soon :good2:
Darran
Sorry to hear about your flat tyre Doug, these things always seem to happen at the wrong time, and it would've been worse being on your own.
Like you I've never had a flat tyre on a road bike, but had a big lump appear on the front tyre under the tread when the belts or something let go near Maleny, we also enjoyed a ride home in a flatbed truck free of charge. like the ad says, RACQ it pays to belong.
Tony.

OK, I've managed to put a short video of snippets of the Nobby run on You Tube. It wouldn't let me upload in the size I wanted, so the picture might be a bit small, but you'll get the idea. I'll put the full footage on DVD and give each person on there a copy at the man shed day.

Nice little vid Tony. So you have 2 cameras mounted on the bike and can swap between front/rear view on the fly?
No, not on the fly Ray, although that option I think is available now with remote controls and whatever. I do it the old fashion way and it takes many hours hunched over a hot computer with many beers to sync both videos together.
Congratulations Tony. You have been accepted as cinematology Director for the Snowy! :drinks:
