I'm looking at a couple of mods on the rear swing arm of my 93, these mods will mean either drilling and tapping a few mount points or welding on a mount point similar to the brake torque arm bracket.
Has anyone drilled this (maybe to mount the gsxr rear hugger) and do you know how thick the material is on the swing arm specifically in the area adjacent to and in front of where the chain guard mounts are situated.
Thanks in advance
Hmmm this is sounding interesting, what are you planning on doing :scratch_one-s_head:

I don't know for sure what the thickness is, but my gut instinct is that it's just sheetmetal and you'd need to weld your mount to it.
The good news is it's steel, so getting it don't should be easy...
I just took a measurement off of my spare 1991 steel swing arm and came up with 1/16 in, or 1.70 mm.
I can only assume that the 93 is constructed of the same material.

Try this option, it works for blind applications and remains almost flush to the surface. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=3960.msg34529#msg34529 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=3960.msg34529#msg34529)
Cheers folks. Doesn't look like it will be thick enough to drill and tap. I like the threaded rivets, if I can find a supplier in the uk they may be the way to go. However there are loads of options around welding so that may be the best way to go.
BUT havin said all that how have those people who have done the gsxr hugger mod got on as if memory serves weren't they drilling and tapping??
Why am I asking all this, well I'm looking at the hugger mod but also modding one of these......

I have done a bit of measuring and should be able to make it work!
No more 'wet lube'....maybe! No more fossil fuel based oil.... I feel a fresh thread coming on. :wacko3:
