Title: A new RPM LED tail light
Post by: racerrad8 on July 18, 2013, 12:01:07 PM
I have created this new poll so I can find out what you guys want. Based on the current requests via the website for the RPM LED tail light I have revisited the product. When I contacted the company they also informed me they were now making a clear only FJ1200 tail light.

This light looks just like the factory light but they currently do not offer it with the integrated turn signals or a smoke lens, but they will make it for me.

I need to know what you guys think about the tail light shape and select a style. Based on the results of the poll is which light I will be ordering.

No, I will not offer both. I have to make a minimum of 25 of the units chosen and I cannot afford to do both.

Yamaha OE style

You can see some other angles here; LED Smoke Brake Light with Integrated Turn Signal Function (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=M%2FC%3ALEDSMKBL-TS)

Vote via the poll so I can get some RPM LED tail lights made and on the shelf for you.

FWIW, I didn't care for the shape of the current one, and that's why it's not on my wish list.

Yes, I agree. The OEM one is very nice looking, I like the flush contours of it.
It would look GREAT in smoke and with integrated turn signals!

Randy, you've talked me into wanting one of these, even though we do need external flashers in this country.
It is now on my wish list as well.

Hope that it works out and these come into production. It would make another great item from RPM.

Well Randy, (RPM), you remember what I did with mine and for what reasons don't you?
I would be interested in a smoked and integrated Yamaha OE style tail light.

Yes, the plan is to have the integral turn signals in the light. The O.E. light will look like the upper light listed in the post but with the smoke lens instead of clear.

The red light in Leon's post is the stock light he modified using his stock red lens and added it to the LED light. Mine will not be red.

I've got your smoked integrated tail light on my 86. But if you get the oe one smoked and integrated. I'll buy one and sell the one I have. And if I ever get a titled frame to put the 87 drive train into I'll buy a second oe one.

I vote for the OEM style LED clear tail light. I already have the exact same tail light.

Here is the OEM style clear LED tail light installed

That is the one O.E. version, but I am going to have it with a smoke lens and integrate turn signals.

That is unless everyone one likes the one I already stock better...

Fred,
Where did you get that taillight?
I would like to have an LED taillight, but don't want integrated turn signals or a smoke lens.  I like to have maximum visibility from the rear lighting.

I got mine from eBay Germany. The light I have is exactly like the new light that Randy is purposing to stock. Wait for a little while longer and see how the polling for this light goes. I am sure if Randy decides to offer the light, it will be much less expensive.

I paid $87.71

What is the extent of the "slight modification must be completed to tail"?

You have to open up the corners of the tail section as the light is more square compared to the stock light.

A rat-tail file or dremel tool work great. There is no damage to the tail if you decided to change back to the stock light as the modification is underneath and cannot be seen whichever light you have installed.

Well, as long as we don't have any shipping issues like last time, the process should go well.

It is all about supply and demand; right now there are 18 people asking to be notified when the light comes back into stock. So hopefully that means there is enough demand for me to have them made and buy them...

Not many other people making parts for our FJ's anymore, so as long as they will make them for me and people want & buy them I should keep having them made.

I have several other slow moving, high dollar items, but I have them when people need them.

If you have to choose between smoked and clear, then choose clear.  It can always be tinted at a later time with some of the plastic dyes that are available (usually for kids wanting to smoke the taillights on the civics, but anyhow).  Come to think of it, I wonder if that tint stuff comes in other colors... could do pink for those with the stripe, or some combination of red stripes for those with ambulances or....

Bump for voting purposes...

I am not asking you guys to buy the light I am just looking for your input on which version I should be stocking based on what the majority of the FJ owners would rather see on their bike.

So, please vote whether you are planning on buying on or not so I can get a good representation of which light I should get.

Thanks, Randy - RPM

Another vote for factory smoke.  I'll be making a order soon for other stuff I need too Randy.  My bike has sat up long enough!   :dance2:  Time to get it going where I want it again.

So we're really just voting on plastic lense shape, right? Both would be tinted, with integrated blinkers?

I voted for OEM, but I'm not picky. I do prefer clear, I think, though.

Yes, basically on the light style.

They will have the smoke lens and integrated turn signals built in.

I can tell you since I started selling the lights, the smoke has sold 12 to 1 over the clear, so the clear was never restocked. I still have some of the original clear lights without the turn signals since they only sell 1 to 6 compared to the smoke.

So, smoke is all I will be ordering from now on. When the final clear, non signal, lights are gone they will be deleted from the inventory.

Thanks for voting, Randy - RPM

I want to thank those who voted in the interest of the tail light.

Based on the votes, 73.5% like the O.E. configuration of the light, so that is what I will be ordering.

It is going to be 6-8 weeks before any thought of me seeing them as they have to be made.

Once they are in stock, I will post their arrived.

Again, thank you.
