Remind of why I never had Mount Everest on my bucket list.

It is real easy to reach Everest base camp; in 1997 I just walked the trail in about a week. At base camp you look at the ice field in front of you and tend to think to yourself that nature has said 'that's as far as you go matey.' You gotta be built of tough stuff both mentally and physically to cross this bit, especially since it gets progressively harder the further you go. Fair play to all those who give it a go, but I guess I didn't have summit fever, so turned around and walked 7 days back.

The fact that it costs upwards of $50,000 to hire a proper guide cured my summit fever right quick.
That would certainly be a factor Bminder.
