Title: Fairing protectors
Post by: fuel80guy on July 15, 2013, 06:10:39 PM
On rpm website it shows left and right fairing protectors and im not sure where they go.
I'm rebuilding an upper fairing and I can't figure out where they go or if I even need them.

What year ? They go on the side scoops.
Here is a 1990 but you can look up any bike year of bike that you want and look at the cowling area . Item # 18

Here is a 1984 Item 22 I think.

Here is a photo with the 88'-93' fairing protector. It is the black strip on the main fairing air scoop.

Here is a photo with the 84'-85' fairing protectors. The 2 black items just aft of the main fairing air scoop.

My bike is an 85. What purpose do they serve?
How many do I need one for left and one for right?

Two per side. They might protect your fairing if you leaned your bike gently against a car or other hard surface but as far as protecting against any crash damage, I don't think so!    :negative:

They simply hide fairing mounting bolts.

These do have a habit of falling off and they are expensive.
I stuck velcro (hook & loop) dots behind mine.

Isn't that strange, mine have never looked like falling off.

I had one of mine fall off while riding Sunday night. I should receive my new one from RPM tomorrow.

I just put 2 small black screws right through them into to fairing. Velcro might be a better idea.  :good2:

Effie could of had them , but when I bought the fairing I filled in the indentations in the  fiberglass , as I couldn't find another 89 protector at the time :flag_of_truce:
